For those who are curious, studios like A24 use their status as a prestige independent studio to make big deals for other companies to pay for international distribution and use non traditional marketing like social media and word of mouth to cut down costs and go against the 2.5x budget expectation
Just a bunch of dorks who are disinterested in the actual fascinating ways in which studios decide which films to find and which they consider to be successes or not in favor of constantly repeating “this film hasn’t made 2.5x its budget so it’s objectively a failure, studio shouldn’t have made it”
