The thing that jumps out to me isn’t Ro’s smooth brain, it’s his instinct to treat the Twitter text box as equivalent to an internet search or chatbot input.

Sadly… many such cases.

While we’re all talking about Portland, I think they should change the name of the book festival back to Wordstock. That was a kickass name.

I think you are underestimating how much the extremely online Gen Alpha tech set idolizes the Tron: Legacy aesthetic.

Will they turn out at the movie theater in big numbers? TBD.

One reason it's hard for people to accept this is that we have, in fact, lived through a few things that happened on a Twitter timescale. And if you're on a microblogging site, you probably participated in the discourse.

for all the talk about how voters need to touch the stove, like, we are touching the stove. this [waves arms wildly] is what touching the stove looks like. nothing happens on a twitter timescale.

2020: Covid shutdown (NBA suspension + Trump oval office speech were same day)
2021: January 6th (self-explanatory)
2022: FTX (11/2 article about FTT, 11/11 bankruptcy)
2023: SVB (less than a week)
2024: Biden dropout (<1 month from debate to drop)

We are averaging ~one of these per year right now.

I do think it’s really weird that state Republican parties have a tendency. in races they know deep down will be blowout losses, to enable and cover for genuinely unwell people.

Royce White was one of the worst examples and this is another. They need counseling and get campaigns instead.

its like Space Jam, where the fate of the world depends on this team full of pros and freaks, except if everyone on social media was simultaneously commenting on how the toons were playing and what is Michael Jordan doing etc

(I also skipped October 7th, 2023 and the fall of Assad.)

To clarify, SVB went from announcing a capital raise to acceleration of the group chat-driven bank run already in progress to receivership in about 48 hours.
