During the arguments, the justices and attorneys were candid about the political dimensions of voting lawsuits — a sign of how extreme election challenges have become in the Trump era, that old-school Republican voting suppression can be acknowledged frankly.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

This morning, Trump declared that the mayor of Chicago, Democrat Brandon Johnson, “should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers!”

“Governor Pritzker also!” Trump added.

If you think these threats are just bluster, consider that Comey was arraigned today—a longtime dream of Trump’s.
As troops invade Chicago, Trump threatens to jail the mayor and governor

JB Pritzker's forceful, defiant response to Trump's threat to jail him confirms the points I tried to make in the piece and thread below about the role of conflict and attention in the public battle over Trump's authoritarian takeover:

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you.

And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it.

This is not about politics. It's about people.

Let’s break it down:

“You would have to talk to Director Patel about that,” Bondi replied.

“No, I’m talking to you.”
