My husband and I have been together 39 years. First as domestic partners, then as a civil union and finally married in 2008 when legally allowed…each time jumping through hoops for recognition no straight couple is required to do.

I was asked last week at my telephone town hall why Members of Congress are getting paid through this shutdown while federal workers aren’t.
I’m asking the same question. I’ve declined my paycheck during the shutdown, but I’d like to know how many of my colleagues are too. It’s unacceptable.
