I started being regularly published when I was 25. I didn't make my first dollar writing until I was 30. I didn't sell my first novel or screenplay until I was 35. Many of you hadn't even heard of anything I'd written until I was over 40.

You have time. There is no expiration date on writers.

“In absolute governments,” Thomas Paine wrote, “the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be king.”

The intention of the Founders was clear. The contents of the Constitution are plain.

Great letter Carol!

LETTER in local paper today!
My response to some rightwing idiot who wrote a fulsome endorsement of Trump last week.

If you have a local paper, do write!
I’m a bit of a ‘fixture’ in mine.
(Feel free to copy any of it if emailing your MP on the topic!)

We see it so often that I think we can state this as a general rule:

Those who most loudly proclaim their patriotism will, given the time and opportunity, harm their own nations as surely as any foreign adversary.

The soil carbon market is going to collapse - and that's a good thing.
One of the issues I explore in this week's column, about the dreamworld of climate fakery our legislators have created.

Trump’s science-denying fanatics are bad enough. Yet even our climate ‘solutions’ are now the stuff of total delusion | George Monbiot
The ‘progress’ made at Cop29 has been on carbon markets: a world of magical thinking, over-claiming and distorted truth, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Last year, when I was at MSNBC, I did a 10-minute deep-dive into RFK Jr's anti-vaxxer role in the measles outbreak that killed dozens and dozens of kids in Samoa.

I hope every Senator voting in his confirmation process for HHS knows about this crucial and awful story:
RFK Jr., anti-vaxxers, and a measles outbreak: Mehdi’s deep dive

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

Unlike last week, tomorrow a simple majority in the House could pass the “nonprofit killer” bill, placing all NGOs that campaign for human rights in jeopardy. We need each of our US followers to contact their congressperson and tell them VOTE “NO” ON HR 9495!
