I’m pleased to share our new paper, “Hippocampal ripple diversity organizes neuronal reactivation dynamics in the offline brain”, out in @cp-neuron.bsky.social !

With @vitorlds.bsky.social and David Dupret, we show that diversity in ripple current profiles shapes reactivation dynamics

🚨 New paper alert! 🚨(1/6)

Excited to share our work, out now in Science Advances

We show that a rapid norepinephrine surge along a brainstem pathway (LC→PRN) is a key driver of sound-evoked awakenings

An early surge of norepinephrine along brainstem pathways drives sensory-evoked awakening
The locus coeruleus has a specialized pathway to the brainstem that controls sound-evoked awakening from sleep.

New opinion piece!

@amirtal.bsky.social and I argue that "wake reactivation" is not a scientifically useful construct; It encompasses nonconscious & conscious processes w/ varying levels of elaboration & diverging consequences, leading to conflicting results

Very excited about this work and very proud of @xiongbowu.bsky.social who did it all:

Based on 4 independent data sets (incl. EEG/iEEG, eye tracking, gaze manipulation & memory), we advocate for a new perspective on the function of the brain's dominant rhythm 🧠

🚨 New preprint alert!

Excited to share our latest work on alpha/beta activity, eye movements, and memory.

Across 4 experiments combining scalp EEG/iEEG with eye tracking, we show that alpha/beta activity directly reflects eye movements, and only indirectly relates to memory.

We investigated how hippocampal and cortical ripples support memory during movie watching. We found that:

🧩 Cortical ripples predict later recall

Ripples may help transform real-life experiences into lasting memories!
