The language of "trans rights activists" is so sly. It implies none of us are average people who just want to support rights for trans people; people like me who can't organise their way out of a paper bag but can turn up to a protest. Trans people who just want to live and have better things to do!

The Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia, says its bandwidth costs have gone up 50% since Jan 2024 — a rise they attribute to AI crawlers.

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important:

Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

Already knew these people were not to be trusted but my overall optimism and faith in humanity kept me from assuming the worst. Now to see them roll over so shamelessly and vulgarly... no words. Absolute scum.
Zuckerberg says Meta plans to eliminate its fact-checking program, move content moderators to Texas to address claims of bias, raise the bar for enforcing its terms and lift certain “restrictions” on immigration and gender talk.

Huge shift in platform policy.

This is an astonishing statement, a complete fantasy. Baseless Techbro PR babble. The arts is a huge industry in the UK, raking in billions despite a huge lack of central support. Our government now appear to want to crater this to facilitate thieves. Write to your MP.

Moderation decisions draw intense public scrutiny from many places. That’s why Bluesky's architecture is designed to enable communities to control their online spaces, independent of the company or its leadership. We will continue to work on empowering people with more control over their experience.

The discourse around shooting, and presenting, films on film in the 2020s is almost always targeted around genre film but it can work wonders for intimate character pieces as well. Case in point, Azazel Jacobs’s HIS THREE DAUGHTERS which was shot, and had a small release on, 35mm and it looks great!

There's a lot of folks I follow who are editors or physical media producers whose job involves commissioning film critics every single day. You have the power to hire trans critics, of whom there are many; and remember, trans critics can also write/talk about things that aren't related to transness!
A lot of chatter about trans bathroom bills on ~this day~ but no one writing about Susan Stryker's radical reimagining of bathrooms, disability access, the North Carolina bills + their failure to pass masture less than a decade ago. Go read a book. Go buy a trans person food. Go hire someone trans.

Thought I'd dig out my Chromebook to look at my WIPs. Turns out these things wipe themselves when already on their last legs and the battery drains completely. Which is terrible news if all of your WIPs and entire fandom history were saved in its local storage. Inclined to throw it out the WINDOW 😭
This week's word is...

✨ WINDOW ✨

Find the word in any WIP & share the sentence containing it. All fandoms, all ships, all writers welcome!

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc

Just found out there's a site that lets you see who has you blocked on here, was surprised to see I was blocked by a handful of folks I don't know or have no connection to. Was wondering why, since I'm not really doing anything interesting here.
