What lies beneath … the jewelled sea in my profile picture suffered a marine heatwave this year, there was an algal outbreak and most of the sea life died.

Four years ago bushfires burned through nearly half the island, now this.

We must change our way of life, no matter how hard it is to accept

Cars in cities should be charged for:

Emissions (EVs get a discount)

Size, mass, pedestrian safety rating & distance driven (EVs should be charged the same as other cars).
“Electric cars are no more dangerous for pedestrians than petrol and diesel models, researchers find.”

They’re also no safer. Which reminds us that “better cars” aren’t the main answer to the consequences of cars. The main answer is fewer (and smaller) cars driven less frequently in better cities.
EVs 'just as safe for pedestrians'
Electric vehicles (EVs) are no more dangerous to pedestrians than traditional petrol or diesel cars, according to a new study.

Cannot really begin to describe how fucking heartbreaking it is. A mass shooting in my old home.

I know the world sees Australia as a gun control best-case but that was a long time ago and the gun lobby has been winning its fight against those laws

Australia’s gun lobby says it’s ‘winning’ the fight against firearm control as numbers surge
There are now more than 4m guns in the community – almost double the number recorded in the years after the Port Arthur massacre that prompted a national crackdown

It’s good the Library is rethinking this mad proposal but we will have to remain vigilant.

I remember when I first came to live in Melbourne being in awe of this library - so grand but accessible to all. We must cherish it

The survey shows people are increasingly concerned about living outside of towns and cities. This will have implications for our national food security.
Already insurance premiums are rising and many farmers need extensive firefighting equipment and water storage to defend their properties.
