the endgame here is him withholding federal tax dollars from blue states entirely unless they let him personally rewrite all their laws

it is the end of the “states’ rights” conservatives claimed to believe in so fervently in favor of absolute dictatorship
Trump says he will withhold federal tax dollars to Maine colleges unless the Gov of Maine personally apologizes to him.

As a reminder, Joseph Welch — who defied McCarthy and brought him low with the “no sense of decency” line — was a partner at the prestigious firm of Hale and Dorr (now WilmerHale).

It’s not only possible for leading firms to resist; it’s essential.
All we need right now is at least one big law firm to speak out and take a stand - surely they will get support from others.

It’s also time for associates in those firms to speak out and push their partners internally and also organize externally.

History won’t be kind to those who are silent.
It does face backlash, it will face backlash & especially in light of last night's EO - Trump's broadest, most unhinged swipe against lawyers who oppose him yet -- I am heartened by what I'm hearing from many in the profession more determined than ever to push back.

Garcia: The fact that the Trump DOJ now wants to silence members of Congress because we’re actually willing to take on Elon Musk is quite dangerous.

It’s incredibly disturbing. But we’re not going to be silenced. We’ve got to push back.

This country has seen some bad moments in the 61 years, 5 months, 16 days I’ve been on this Earth. But it has never, ever before come close to the supertoxic level of stupidity, mendacity, narcissism, nihilism, and moral apathy that threaten to destroy it today.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

It's wild how every single post that escapes containment follows the same escalating pattern. People who get it-->people who get it but make it weird-->people who don't get it-->people who not only don't get it, but somehow reach the conclusion that it says the opposite of what it says

Wild abdication of journalistic responsibility to publish this story without mentioning at all, much less at the top where it should be, that just about everything Trump and Musk are doing to quote-unquote "disrupt the federal government" is manifestly illegal
Elon Musk, the world's richest man, is securing real beneifits as he helps Trump disrupt the federal government. Just how? The NYT takes a deep look today at these benefits: federal investigations targeting Musk companies that have been disrupted or now may die.

The AP should stop covering Trump events. Instead send those White House reporters out into the field to report on the harms and repercussions of his policies.

The U.S. public never needed coverage of pseudo-events anyway.
Associated Press: “Today we were informed by the White House that if AP did not align its editorial standards with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, AP would be barred from accessing an event in the Oval Office.“
