Backgrounds can be tricky but there's a LOT of ways to simplify them and make them easier. This is true of every aspect of comics though!

Generally, 1-2 more detailed backgrounds per page are MORE than enough, but it depends on where the focus needs to be in the moment.

I usually go crazy after a page takes me forever and knock a bunch out super-fast, but 1 1/2 in two days is a lot even for me. I'm encouraged now tho, still getting two pages done in December!! 🤞

I try to keep that in mind, but also I think I do alright considering I'm the only person writing/drawing my comic. There are times I get frustrated at the pace I work at but all things considered an average of 1 page a week for the level of quality I strive for isn't bad.

I'll keep repeating it til' I'm blue in the face - making comics is actually an exceptionally difficult task. I'm quick as hell but each page I draw represents about 10-20 hours of work from writing to final output. I deserve to be paid for that work.

ive been working on a lot of test and pitch pages the last few months trying to get things moving and finally realized that if i forgo inks in my backgrounds and just paint them i get a final result that im particularly pleased with

I am just over half way through a graphic adaptation of an epic Irish medieval eco-fable. I've about 12-18 months left on it. I'd like to focus more on the lost habitats/sepsis, but that will come. The writer is great to work with. I've learned to love green 💚 in all its shades

Also this is the 5-6 time I started this story and the only one that stuck so fr keep at it, you’ll figure it out eventually

The big things I learned are what color style works for me, and what I actually like

And backgrounds are necessary and should be on almost every page even if they suck. Even if they are barely anything but a few lines. Gradients don’t cut it.

Lettering is super important

I started Hellhound I 2021 on a whim (kinda) and it’s still going!

I’m 132 pages in (5 completed issues)

What is working? Stubbornly moving ahead even when it’s hard to do anything at all.

What’s difficult? All of it. All of it is difficult. But I’m trying anyway

And yeah, Fortnite is basically the biggest game in the world and the chances of any organized boycott having a noticeable impact on the game and its profits are super slim.

But if you only stand with trans folks when it is a guaranteed Win, you aren't REALLY standing with us.
