Can’t help but reflect on the *5 years of strikes* we did to defend our pensions, on this, the day USS announce their £10 billion surplus.

Pam Bondi pardoned a plastic surgeon who allegedly pretended to give children Covid vaccines and sold Covid vaccination cards ($50 a pop) to over 1,900 people. She said the government’s will shouldn’t be imposed on patients (except when it comes to abortion and gender-affirming care, I guess).

"Professors are the enemy, professors are the enemy.
Write that on the blackboard 100 times and never forget it."

A short history of a long-running refrain from the American right.

Already seeing echoes of this in the UK from Badenoch and Farage ...

Born on this day in 1471, the incomparable Albrecht Durer. Just a complete dandy in his 1498 self portrait. I mean, the cap! The braided strap! And the gloves!! Not to mention the long curly locks.

The big “why do you hate AI?” Thread got comments and quotes turned off, but here’s the main reason I hate AI:

It’s being developed by the worst people on the planet solely to enrich themselves at the expense and labor of the world’s vulnerable populations. Everything else stems from that

We can uncover and piece together scattered data to reveal how companies are linked to abuse and environmental destruction.

On this day May 2nd 1989, an album was released which became the soundtrack to countless millions of dark & disenfranchised souls around the world.

36 years on, it still sounds amazing.
If you turn it up loud enough you can drown both your sorrows & the sound of your knees cracking when you get up.

We hope the VC + senior management see sense beforehand..

Pope Francis leaves behind a legacy of compassion, courage, and a continuing call to protect our common home and all who share it with us.

In his 2023 exhortation, Laudato Deum, he spoke out strongly against those who reject what science tells us about climate and deny their own responsibility. 🧵

That is exactly what Rothko's paintings do and why they are so important. They strip everything back to the basis and give it back to you. Like a child recognising the hidden geometries of the universe. Who is to say what wonders will work in you!

I went to the Tate Modern yesterday. In the Rothko room with all the Serious Art Connoisseurs there was a ~5 year old kid who walked up to each painting, pointed at it and shouted 'RECTANGLE' at each one in turn, then left the room.
Rothko room at the Tate modern, London. Several dark red / purple canvasses with a rectangle or two painted on them.
