In Albo's new antisemitism bill, the definition of "hate crime", which underpins the new regime to proscribe "hate groups" like the Nazis, specifically excludes "advocating genocide". That is, advocating genocide is treated as not being a racist hate crime. Now, why would that be?

Look I’m as right wing as they come but I have sincere questions about Christian kids in high school sports. God’s always helping them and that isn’t fair. The Australian public is getting pretty tired of this... the ABC should delete the emails and be done with it.

That no criminal conviction nor procedural fairness is required for the minister to desginate a hate group as such will invariably lead to the criminialisation of peaceful activism and protest groups. If you don't think Labor would do this, then imagine the Coalition salivating at the prospect.
The Albo government's antisemitism bill is a rushed hatchet job. Nobody has proper time to consider it carefully enough, and it will have all sorts of unintended consequences if passed. It is the worst kind of law-making: moral panic induced, pandering to powerful lobby groups' demands.

We have to reckon, as well, with the blatant political interference—so many cases now where premiers and ministers have stepped in to overturn awards or indulge in censorship, in defence of apartheid Israel. The attempt to link our protests and criticism to antisemitism and terrorism is a disgrace.
