Get off social media. Enjoy holidays. Spend time with family and friends, real or virtual - they’re equally real to you. But social media is mostly news and doom feeds. The world is brighter than the screen says it is, and your time with it is but brief. Savor it.

Seeing the news, and friends worry. I think of this timeless quote - “I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Just attended the naturalization ceremony for a close friend. 91 people becoming Americans, folks from 43 countries—Albania to Uzbekistan. The judge gave a good speech about freedom and the right to vote. And the value of a diverse population holding leaders to account

i envision a utopian future for technology, where when you launch your computer there are no more programs, no more browsers, but just 4 buttons that say "Gamble", "Goon", "AI", and "Borrow Money At An Exorbitant Interest Rate"

It was weird to see the latest Diablo 4 expansion and realize I didn't care the slightest bit. I mean, I ordered the super special edition big box version of Diablo 2 when I was kid, and was giddy to pick it up. I liked Diablo 3 a lot by the end. And now, just...nothing.

Finished Dispatch.

I don’t know y’all. Another extremely compelling 2025 release about a lovable band of damaged weirdos made by incredibly talented devs that are outshining the larger studios they previously worked for? Get new material.

It’s like they specifically designed this trailer to get @garrettart.bsky.social to keep playing.

Says something about a game when its music comes up on your streaming random playlist and you go "man I want to play that again". Cyberpunk 2077's V sound track just popped off on my Spotify out of nowhere and I was just suddenly *in that world*, feeling the vibes of Night City coursing through me.

I genuinely can't predict Pluribus. It's not following any tropes I recognize. I love it. It's doing what genre fiction does best, telling a story about people being people by displacing them from normality using fantastical means. Wonderful.

Dispatch is so good. Just finished it. I mean I got a mediocre ending so I need to replay it and suck less but still happy. Sign of a great game that I can know I did poorly and still had a blast.

Weird melancholy. Heard my old employer is having their Christmas party this week (they always do it early). Worked there for five years. Left this summer because I was angry and burnt out. I still built so much of that place though. Hired so much of the team. Feels like missing an ex.

In a mood this morning, but sometimes I feel like I'm weird for the belief that things dying is natural, and people waste their actual lives in fear and anguish over the loss of things or people - games, loved ones, ideas - rather than enjoying the time they have with those things. We are all dust.

Seeing the usual drama over FF14's latest census. I look forward to what the team works on next, but I think people - fans especially - have internalized overly much the capitalist idea that a thing needs to grow eternally. It's okay, it may die, but it may also merely be a natural trough.
