Wear boots.
A cheap leather jacket is "good enough" protection for your torso from most munitions.
The only other *must have* protection from impact munitions (and this one surprised people) : WEAR BOOTS, not sneakers.
Munitions skip along the ground I've seen people's toes literally explode in sneakers.

The two people shot in Portland last week by U.S. Border Patrol face criminal charges. Both have been released from hospital and into federal custody.
