I’m quoted here on data centers and water use.

My 2 cents: Data centers are just one among many large water users.

Illinois law is totally unprepared to properly regulate water use, ensure water goes to its highest & best use, or enable serious challenges to wasteful, extractive uses.
Virtual water: Inside Illinois’ data centers, water flows quietly — and unchecked - IPM Newsroom
The steady hum inside the National Petascale Computing Facility (NPCF) is so loud that it’s hard to hear anything else inside. But beneath this noise is a hidden current of water.

Networking effects, scroll down a bit in this essay: bsky.app/profile/thom...
Excerpt from https://steady.page/en/democracyamericana/posts/ab02af47-9e87-4143-ba51-afa2d1804c1c (Sept 2025, Thomas Zimmer )

"I will say that if you have built a substantial audience via Substack, and your livelihood depends on it, leaving that behind comes with a risk. Substack is by far the biggest platform out there – the networking effects that it generates are real. For instance: A lot of people are used to paying for newsletters on Substack, they have their payment information already stored, if they stumble upon a new publication, a paid subscription is just one click away. That is just not the case anywhere else."

Network-effect discovery is probably a big concern among folks trying to make a living off writing.

Steady.page might be a decent alternative that still has some of those elements, see bsky.app/profile/thom...

Things have really changed. Now I need your help.

I wrote about why I left academia, why I left America, why I left Substack - and why I need your support as I am starting over as a full-time independent writer:

Fun personal fact: around 13-14 years ago I almost drove into a wild boar going like 70-80mph somewhere on a small West Texas highway early in the morning heading towards Big Bend, and there was much fear.

if you have ever come across a boar in the wild unarmed (or even improperly armed) you have known mortal fear, just saying.

CW: protester being struck in the head by a pepper ball

Footage I took earlier of the moment Reverend David Black, a regular protester outside of the Broadview Detention Center, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents on the roof of the facility.

So it took them over three months just to state a [not good] plan?

Previously recall this from early July: bsky.app/profile/vive... ('Trump, DeSantis and Noem on deportations at Alligator Alcatraz, plans to ease farm workers ICE raids', July 1 2025)

...and another as a But. Whether you like Renee or not, she's pointed out an issue where some US adults are going to be critical of Media Literacy education ( see bsky.app/profile/noup... (July 2024) & bsky.app/profile/noup... (Sept. 2025))

So if you want to watch right wing influencers setting the frames for 2024, pay attention. Because even stuff this stupid is getting eaten up by the base. Academia is talking ab prebunking & media literacy to “fix” this - and they’re framing those efforts as “government brainwashing” already.

No longer in the market, but they could've sold me a PHEV Maverick if they were out this year.

At least it'd be an option to tell neighbors about who drive largely day errands in trucks.

They already use the Escape platform for the FWD Escape PHEV, and the AWD GT Lincoln Corsair PHEV.
