Encountering a misinformation campaign in real time. The bystander who tackled the gunman at Bondi was identified as Ahmed el Ahmed (link below). But in almost every tweet I saw, there are people claiming the real person is "Edward Crabtree," referencing a website called "The Daily."
Hero bystander who tackled gunman in incredible footage identified
In the aftermath of the devastation at Bondi, a deluge of footage poured onto social media. One video of an act of incredible bravery stood out.

Gen AI tools are not good sources for information during rapidly unfolding, novel events. Words associations aren't helpful for discovering ground truth. These tools are more likely to echo and contribute to the inherent uncertainty and ambiguity of crisis events.

I was on @theverge.com of subscribing today but v surprised to see there's still no site prefs dark/light/accessible display modes. This feels a tad @reckless.bsky.social for a site focused on all things big tech and better tech. Plz implement it 💚 Love the new following prefs though

Welcome back, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, because #MindsEye features an absolutely frustrating CPR mini-game, and if this NPC dies... Its mission FAILED! Sick 😎

Really incredible story unraveling in this thread, where Amazon and other sites have seemingly been able to sell an academic textbook that was withdrawn in 2021 and never actually printed or published, without the knowledge of the press, editors or contributors. Something has gone deeply wrong!
Hi Chloe,
This is news to me (and to my editor at Routledge.) I'm shocked to find this out. I assume that this is somehow a pirated edition. Does it include the section on Neurodiversity? Part VIII?

This method is fundamental to how modern displays, including computer monitors, TVs, and smartphone screens, produce color images. By varying the intensity of these three primary colors, screens can create millions of different colors.

These are real images of exoplanets.

Four super-Jupiters, imaged 10 times over 12 years around a star 133 lightyears away.

These are real, giant worlds, out there in the dark.

And we can see them.

Linguistically loaded electoral lashouts don't get much better than this, regardless of what you actually think of Ryan or Hamer. Gotta hand it to ya you're absolutely Absolutely dee_lee_berun on it #auspol #Australiavotes #ausvotes2025
Monique Ryan smashes loopy born to rule, struggling renter, landlord, property investor, trust fund baby, Alicia Harmer in Kooyong.

We need strong opposition party to help keep Labor gov accountable to voters that delivered them another victory. Libs well on track to be absolutely wrecked this election both electoraliterally (plz credit if using 😄) and reputationally. Not good for Oz #ausvotes2025 #auspol #Australiavotes

ABC reporter at liberal party HQ in Brisbane said Dutton & supporters were "sequestered" in a private room. Perhaps sequestered around the big red 🚨nuclear🚨 button to have the last rites administered on their election chances. Also said barely anyone there sides journos. Bleesh #Australiavotes

I wonder if Antony Green was serious that the ABC News election night system relies on AWS. Always interesting to hear what technology providers a public broadcaster chooses #auspol #Australiavotes

Walking past ABC election coverage and thought they had Daniel Andrews on. Nope, it's LNP Senator James McGrath, who looks and kinda sounds like he could be Daniel Andrews' brother #Australiavotes

@pfrazee.com is it possible to implement an opt-in AI feature that adds alt text to uploaded images if users to add it?
I’m moving away from reposting anything without alt text, as many others are. It’s a matter of courtesy and it only takes 15 seconds. You don’t have to go crazy with it.
Please consider making your image posts accessible and searchable with alt text.

And A'I' can't even parse strawberry properly in 2025

Humans are way more interesting
The years Y = 1, 9, 36, 100, 225, 441, 784, 1296, 2025, 3025 … all follow the pattern Y = square of (1 + … + n) = 1 cubed + … + n cubed.

So the last pre-2025 year of this form was 1296 = (1 + 2 + … + 8) squared = 36 squared = 1 cubed + … + 8 cubed.

The first post-2025 will be 3025 = 55 squared.

One important comment about aviation safety: When the global air travel system achieves the incredible level of safety that it has through deliberate engineering and organizational safeguards, the remaining accidents are at the edge of the bell curve -- ensuring they will be increasingly bizarre.

It feels odd that Microsoft and Asobo didn't anticipate the server load for launch day, or allow users to preload the game to reduce the strain. #msfs2024 #microsoftflightsimulator2024
