If you scroll aaaall the way to the bottom they've managed to put in *one* positive comment.

Please can we have a bit more balance and research next time, @manchestereveningnews.co.uk? It's a well-evidenced fact that schemes like this are good for businesses and residents.

The risk of incidents like this is increased by a ‘cycle network’ reliant on shared-use canal towpaths & narrow, poorly lit routes out of sight of roads.

Women should be safe everywhere – and deserve to have the option of wide pavements & protected cycleways on roads like Hyde Road & Ashton New Rd.

Language inciting hate and violence towards people cycling is normalised – language which would be completely unacceptable to use about other groups.

The attack on Klaudia comes only months after disgusting comments made by local MP Andrew Gwynne.

Walk Ride GM was horrified by the recent news of a hate crime against Klaudia Mitura on the Ashton Canal.

There is no excuse for violence, including this example of male violence against women.

Incidents like this are made more likely by a widespread press and media bias against cyclists.

We're thrilled by this decision. Fewer cars on roads means buses on time, better air quality, less sound pollution, more pleasant roads for cycling, better for pedestrians... The Council has also responded to lots of suggestions via the consultation to make appropriate adjustments and exemptions.

Meanwhile in Greater Manchester...

Oxford is to get a congestion charge of £5 per car per day, starting this autumn. Charges will be levied for driving past one of six camera sites. The decision, intended to accelerate bus services and encourage cycling/walking, was taken at an Oxfordshire County Council cabinet meeting this morning.

We somehow missed this consultation for the #HeywoodTriangle - this looks like a really easy win diverting through traffic away from a school and park. Please write to your councillors if you’re near there to support. @walkridegm.org.uk

At Walk Ride GM, we’re demanding safe active travel for women and girls in Greater Manchester.

Research by Lime found that 100% of female survey respondents want improvements aimed at personal safety.

As far as we are aware, @rochdalecouncil.bsky.social is yet to have a #SchoolStreet scheme despite the success of an #ANPR scheme in Oldham.

Here's something to show your councillors or cabinet members, if they tell you #SchoolStreets are too expensive for them to consider. Our latest research shows more than three-quarters of London’s School Street schemes covered the costs of installing ANPR cameras within two years. #AirPollution

Yes, to this! we've seen the congestion created by the school run increase air pollution by over 50% between 7-10am at our local junction. School streets desperately needed, firstly to make it much safer for all the pupils already walking or cycling, and also to encourage others to do the same.

As the schools go back, the additional traffic from the school run will be obvious. For a substantial proportion, especially primary, the distance to school is less than a mile so walking, wheeling or cycling would be feasible if it felt safer to do so #SchoolStreets @solveschoolrun.bsky.social

The more kids are invited to bike, walk and take public transit to school, the safer, healthier and smarter it is for EVERYONE. It’s shocking how much vehicle congestion in cities is actually “driven” by trips to and from schools. #BackToSchool #LetKidsBike #LetKidsWalk cartoon by Yehuda Moon
Cartoon about the amount of unsafe traffic “driven” by parents driving their kids because of safety concerns. We need both safer conditions and a different perspective about what’s safe.

#SchoolStreets are really important for childhood health & there is some evidence that walking, wheeling or cycling to school improves academic performance.

Government targets are going to be missed & #Rochdale has no School Streets yet.
