An interesting read that highlights Congleton’s current situation with house building.
Is anyone from @cheshire-east.bsky.social attending this conference? Officers or cllrs? #CheshireEast
We really do need simpler fare pricing. But first we need trains - we have had no Sunday trains in Congleton for 12 months.

I can confirm once again that it would probably be easier to have a conversation with a sheep in Latin than buy the correct train ticket for a journey in the UK. 🐑

Today I’m travelling to Leeds for work, and given my past troubles in this area, my boss, the ticket guru, … 1/10

We so need to have people-friendly pavements here in Congleton. It has been done in London so when here? @cheshire-east.bsky.social

Good to see an MP speaking up on #PavementParking - five years after the consultation closed there is public appetite for action. Councils need the powers to enforce (including retention of fines to pay for other road safety initiative)

I recently spoke in Parliament about the impact of pavement parking—a concern I hear often from constituents with disabilities, sight loss or mobility aids.
It makes everyday journeys harder and more dangerous. Councils need proper powers to act.

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

It would be great if we could take a whole country and change the default speed limit to 20mph and then compare it to one left at 30mph. What if it reduced casualties by 25% and with lower risk reduced insurance premiums by £45 a year? Well it did! bit.ly/4gIBPlJ
That's about 30mph down to 19mph.

This week, the city of Haarlem lowered the speed limit from 50 to 30km/h for 132 roads in the city. We sat down with experts from Gemeente Haarlem about the change and how they made it happen.

Protected cycle lanes increase the value of your home (if nearby).
Protected cycle lanes improve traffic flow for drivers.
Protected cycle lanes boost high street spending.
Protected cycle lanes save the NHS a fortune.

Why would you oppose any of that?

We're at Labour party conference, where we've been reminding the UK government of its responsibilities to people, planet and the fierce urgency of now.

Our Chief Executive Asad Rehman has spoken at events on the need for real leadership that protects our planet and transforms our future.

Data will also be gathered to send to local authorities to enable them to gauge blackspots and look at possible preventative actions. Thanks to Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley who is heading up the review and spent time this morning explaining changes and listening to concerns. 2/2
Pleased to state that altho' OpParkSafe by Cheshire Police is under review, it isn't under threat. Management will move to local teams; the report form might be changed to make photo submission easier; feedback to people making reports is now under consideration after we requested this. 1/2

A great way to keep kids safe: Place automatic traffic cameras near schools.

After cameras were installed in Toronto:
🔹 Share of vehicles speeding ⬇️ 45%
🔹 85th percentile speed ⬇️ 10.7 km/h

Droivers speeding the most were most likely to slow down.

Not that we had many trains in the first place. I think 4 each way but haven’t checked the timetable recently.
