If you look at fascist participation as collective make-believe (ie people participate through vibes and suspension of disbelief instead of being convinced by evidence and reasoned argument), mockery can be a way to break up the play-act and spoil the game for the participants.
This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny

No one's talking about this much, but grocery stores in rural America are in trouble. I found out last night that the grocery store in my small town is the last one still open in my county. The largest town in the county is without a grocery store. Please shop local!

what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"

you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist
The murdered woman's glove compartment is filled with stuffed animals.

The anti-vax crowd is cheering while their children will be sacrificed not to illness but to the military industry. This administration knows what things their base will cheer for and what that cheering will conveniently cause them to ignore.

Reminder that we are a year into aggressive ICE raids and concentration camps, and there’s not a single example of local cops protecting people against this violence, kidnapping, or death.

Chickie P is still afraid of me but the kitten compulsion to play is too strong.

Look at the tip of his tail!!!

I got a new kitten today and he is TERRIFIED. I'm starting to think that the shelter naming him "Chicken Parm" wasn't 100% accidental.

We're keeping that name, tho.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

it's crazy that if you're a cat, your only two life outcomes are eating out of a trash can or getting treated like a little baby

Write my 100th letter of the year. Going to fall short of my not-a-goal goal of 150 letters this year. Still, not shabby in this disgustingly digital age.

My cats' vet assigns a number to every client they have starting with 1 when they first opened. The numbers are currently in the 8000-range.

My cat, Stormy? His number at the vet is 24. He has been seeing the same vet for 14 years now.

Friendly reminder that pretty much everyone is "bad with names." Names are abstract! Rarely does someone's physical appearance match their name, so there are no "context clues" about a person's name that our brain can immediately associate with a person's face.

Today marks the anniversary of John Brown’s 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry. His attempt to seize the federal armory and spark a slave uprising ended in defeat, but the raid has endured as a symbol of radical resistance.

🕊🌍Tomorrow, Oct. 5, is World Quaker Day, celebrating the relationships, values, and advocacy for peace and justice that connect Friends globally.

As Friends from 50-plus countries declared at last year's World Plenary: “We are seized with the urgent need to do transformative work in the world.”

Can't figure out why these books would be out of print. 😑

My partner's cat died earlier this week, which means that my two cats are now the only cats. Tonight is the first night over 5 years where I'm sleeping with the bedroom door open and I'm wondering if either of the cats will notice they can leave the room while I'm sleeping.
