For the kind of linkages that were so productive on the other platform we need recovery community members, activists, professionals & academics all to be here.

Whatever else you could say about Starmer's speech - forgtting that the women DID bring football home is surely a massive gaff.

John is depressed as it is, and he’s now planning to watch Starmer’s speech. I think I need to stage some kind of intervention.

Deleted my account with academia-dot-edu. New privacy policy is the last straw. It can sell all of your words, your profile picture, anything you post on it. I should have come off it a long time ago, like lots of people did, when it started to monetise the competition for citations.

This is awful news. Perhaps this a minority point given the horrific wider implications, but Texas Tech has been a beacon of hope for people in recovery from addiction seeking access to HE. Now it is actively erasing part of that community. #TexasTech

Art is sexy.

I mean, really fucking sexy. Historically fucking hot. And all forms of art

"AI" is yet another attempt for uncreative, unsexy people to try to scream they are indeed sexy by screaming they know what sexy is therefore. While being sold by grifters. And fucking up a lot.

Grateful for the opportunity to add my name to this list of writers calling for a boycott. I remember the consumer boycott of South Africa towards the end of Apartheid. History shows that made a small difference. Thx @horatioclare.bsky.social for organising this. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

People who aren’t mothers also weep. And people who are mothers, sadly, do not weep. Motherhood does not make anyone uniquely compassionate, empathetic or invested in children.
We should all weep. And then organise.

As a mother - as a human - I find it very difficult to look at these photos and not weep. “Rates of severe malnutrition among children aged under five at Médecins Sans Frontières’ Gaza City clinic have tripled in the last two weeks”

A meagre contribution by me to this week's #poemsabout on the theme of #burnitdown. Nonetheless, I feel it's not wholly out of place, what with the weather recently.
Heatwave

The sun, it seems, is angry
at us all; and like children,
we turn away our faces,

try to appear repentant –
protest that we know nothing
of how the world got broken.

Message to the handful of people who’ve said they’re planning to read ‘Touch’ in due course: This is advanced warning that I’ll be taking it off my blog in the next few days so that I can submit it in comps, but if you wanted to read it just let me know.

Thank you so much Elizabeth! It means so much to hear that line spoke to you.
Yes - I'm well on the mend now - thanks for asking. Seems my body has developed a very shouty voice in my 50s - insisting I stop pushing so hard. But thankfully, once again, all's well. I'm lucky.

I recently had to wait in A&E for 30 hours before I could be admitted to a ward. (All's well now).
While there, I met an extraordinary woman, and wrote this short piece. Hope you like it.

Funniest thing I ever did was gaslit the whole field into thinking there was such a thing as a Leverhulme Prize and that I had won it. Still laughing at that bit, if I do say so myself.

Angry poetry I get! But sorry about the reasons for anger. Wish I could write to prompts. Can do it with prose, but yet to grasp it with poetry. International open mic sounds very interesting! I might look into that!

How profoundly sad. The kids deprived of reading Calvin and Hobbes are the kids who need them the most. My brother put it best: "We know we’re fucked when they come for your cartoon stuffed tigers."

Let's go sit in the grass and crack open "The Days are Just Packed."
