Some of you will know that my main passion is the study of #Clouds and #CloudClassification.

I’ve just found this great image detailing the ten main cloud types (genera) which are further divided into 15 species, 9 varieties, 11 supplementary features and 4 accessory clouds. It’s a complex subject!
Diagram showing the names and heights of the ten main cloud types from the lower stratus and cumulus clouds to the mid level altocumulus clouds and highest cirrus clouds, plus the giant cumulonimbus clouds that extend through all three levels.

The online version had an extra sentence. It is disappointing that the topic cut from the print edition was on the contribution of women observers:

"Although many rainfall recorders were men, there were also significant contributions from women, such as Lady Bayning in Norfolk in the 19th century."

Our paper on historic rainfall observers was discussed in The Times weather column this week, highlighting the role of the thousands of (often) volunteers who dedicated decades to taking detailed measurements of the weather.

Indeed. We need to be doing much more. Support from individuals is strong but it’s sad to see that from politicians faltering.

Kemi Badenoch has vowed to repeal the UK’s Climate Change Act, a move so reckless it demands more scrutiny than polite debate. This matters not just for polar bears or coral reefs, but for our people, our economy, our very future.

Yes but the mutes and muffles have only affected the posts containing them previously, rather than the whole timeline.

The anthropogenic glacier collapse currently underway in the Alps has resulted in the disappearance of >1000 small glaciers! 😱🔥

Following the release of Swiss glacier loss numbers today, let me introduce you the now extinct Vadret da Triazza (Eastern Switzerland) ✝️

@iconfactory.com There may be a bug in yesterday’s Tapestry release (iOS 26.01 on iPhone 15 Pro). There are posts in the All Feeds and Today tabs but nothing in the individual Bluesky, Mastodon or Marked Items tabs.

I'm a really big fan of these "storyline" approaches to uncertain forecasts – such a simple way to communicate quite a lot of detail and I think in a way that makes sense to many. Hope to see more of these on TV

#Humberto and #Imelda are so close to each other that their circulating winds cancel each other out in a calm “col” area in between them.

🇧🇲 Bermuda needs to be on alert however as Imelda will likely cause flash flooding and damaging waves from Wednesday into Thursday.
