Used car salesman meme but with gars in the background. Because Solomon David is compelled to make these memes.

Of all the things I thought I would see today, a half-buried dead snake was not one of them.

Bonus points if you can name the species. Hint: Michigan

In May, Erick Elgin and Jo Latimore from our team presented a #NotMISpecies webinar They discussed the value of community science (volunteer monitoring) for finding invasive plants early in Michigan lakes, joined by volunteer from SE Michigan. Watch: us06web.zoom.us/rec/play/_Ni... #MacrophyteMonday
Screenshot from the beginning of a webinar showing the title, "What Lies Beneath: Invasive Plants in Michigan Lakes" by Erick Elgin and Jo Latimore. Illustrations of five significant invasive plants from Michigan lakes, including Eurasian watermilfoil, curly-leaf pondweed, starry stonewort, European frog-bit, and hydrilla. I am trying to push it off as long as I can so I can get the most protection during the winter surge, but each day that goes by I’m becoming more worried about getting access.

One may be a follower of @solomonrdavid.bsky.social when you don’t need the most distinguishing gar characteristic to ID them.

I see that tail poking around the edge.

The DNR stocked 40 of Minnesota’s 168 fish species in this pond. Ooh! Gar! You’re just going to have to trust me that there’s a gar in this shot.

New Study! Goosanders were tracked using GPS tags in two Scottish river catchments. 🌊 Results showed birds ranged over significantly longer river stretches in the Forth than birds in the Tweed, with licensed shooting occurring in the latter. All birds showed greater movement during daylight hours. ☀️

Great article! We’ve got a lot of golden oysters here in Michigan (they’re flushing all over the place this time of year) and my forager friends and I have indeed noticed them displacing some of our native oysters. They’re delicious, but I would not recommend purchasing them in grow kits anymore!

Paging @helloellower.bsky.social and the GLANSIS team 😬 (okay, fine, it's not an aquatic species, but STILL)

Golden oyster mushrooms have become wildly popular for being delicious and easy to grow at home.

But this food craze has also unleashed an invasive species into the wild, and new research shows it’s pushing out native fungi 🍄
