Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

All these people really want is to pay no taxes and be treated with floor scraping deference. Everything else is just bullshit in pursuit of that goal.

Party donor Nick Candy says "I cherish the values we grew up with here in the West. But today you are more likely to find the values we grew up with in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.’

Love that book, but my favourite thing is the German with the stereoscopic rangefinder in one of the SPGs.

If you look at what Ireland has just done with writers tax breaks and bursaries, you can even make a really good case it benefits the country from a *purely fiscal perspective*, let alone all the actually important stuff

Incredibly good observation on REST IS HISTORY the other day that Keir Starmer is “the modern day Ted Heath”. Such a good comparison with another ineffective bumbling leader

It’s basically a service for idiot executives to speed read all those airside filler management self help books like IT LEFT ME SHAKING: 10 SECRETS OF HANDSHAKING THAT MAKE YOU THE PERFECT ENTREPRENEUR

This is obviously totally pointless for fiction but under the orders of a previous (rubbish) CEO we tried it for non fiction and it was also completely worthless and you got nothing from a summary of a book you wouldn’t from the back cover

Abridging has always been in vogue. Now, apps like Blinkist take entire books and crunch them down to a series of what are called Blinks—which amount to around 2,000 words. “Is that what books are coming to, a handy social lubricant?” Anthony Lane asks.
Can You Read a Book in a Quarter of an Hour?
Phone apps now offer to boil down entire books into micro-synopses. What they leave out is revealing.

But sometimes it is just "thankyou". No code!
willardfoxton.bsky.social
lol in audio and tv "with thanks to" is "we wanted to credit you for your contribution elsewhere but the broadcaster is being a prick"
