Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

A federal immigration agent grabbed a Chicago citizen by the neck on Kedzie Avenue, with four other agents dogpiling him. One of them says "she's next" to someone recording the interaction. (Video shared by Don Lemon)

If they appear imbalanced in their political coverage, their federal funding could be endangered.

I've been wondering if Donald Trump truly has the best interests of the American people at heart, and Senator Schumer has persuaded me that he does not. This is huge.

Donald Trump is ordering Republicans not to even bother talking with Democrats about the budget.

The American people know it would be him shutting the government down.

Often lost in the gun violence conversation: the trauma of false alarms. In this incident no one was hurt or even really in danger, police responded well, school leaders communicated effectively, and yet hundreds very reasonably feared for their lives.

I’m not the first person to make this observation, but this being the biggest story in the world at present really speaks to how much Twitter still serves as a universal assignments editor for English-language journalists.

Well it's hard to say; Bournemouth's David Brooks often occupies the center but he's really best understood as a right winger.

One of my most influential experiences was attending Sen. Wellstone's 2002 memorial, which was sad, inspiring, and led by his own family. Then that night I watched Fox News denounce it for being inappropriately political. Since then, no media framing of events, however absurd, is ever surprising.

It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.

TIL that William F Buckley joined the world of political debate at age 18 in 1943 when he looked at the world of 1943 and decided that the very worst thing happening in that moment was that a movie star was suffering the unpleasantness of being prosecuted for having sex with a 15 year old.

Keeping standing armies among us in times of peace, rendering the military independent of and superior to the civil power, and protecting large bodies of armed troops from any murders they should commit, transporting us beyond seas: all just commonsense policies.

Mike Johnson: "I cannot for the life of me understand how the Democrats think this is some kind of winning political message. Yield man! Let the troops come into your city and show how crime can be reduced."

Not at all what you asked, but it will fascinate you to learn that I will have an article coming out soonish arguing that much of what churchwardens in rural areas did was to pay for the severed heads of dead animals. When they weren't doing that they also had to pay the dog whipper.
