Same! I did not figure out and accept my trans identity until after I completed my PhD

I too originally thought sex & gender was as simple as XX = female and XY = male, until I learned that nothing in biology is simple

Just like how we teach Newtownian physics before quantum mechanics
My field was Evolutionary Biology. Many of my classmates were queer. Part of why I accepted I was trans so quickly was *because* I had my background in biology. “Biology says you’re A or B!” is so far from the messy reality of bio:
“It’s often like this. Kinda. Sometimes. Whatever works tbh”.

i can't believe the number of people in my life who are enthusiastically using Chat GPT for therapy, to analyze text conversations with partners, get advice on disputes with neighbors etc.

it's just autocomplete!

it doesn't "know" anything and can't give you advice!

please please don't do this

One of the reasons why I go so hard on science misinformation/disinformation, is that as a working scientist it is frustrating to see your research misreported to push an agenda.

For example, consider this piece of right-wing propaganda from The Telegraph that was just published

Scientists have created a new protein-based gel that can regenerate damaged tooth enamel. The material mimics a natural process to regrow enamel mineral structure inside holes and cracks. This technology could prevent decay and treat sensitive teeth.

The most annoying thing about genAI is that eventually the genAI proponents are going to get to the end of the novelty of it, realize its limitations, and then claim to be the innovators of doing things the long way without genAI. Call it "slow productivity" or something.
