One by one, the kids knelt on the ground, smudged themselves with smoke and walked to the fallen buffalo to rest a hand on its coffee-colored hide.

Buffalo meat from this week's harvests will be placed in 660 boxes that a food bank will distribute to Wind River Reservation residents.

One issue the preprint identifies is that mentors are super important - but they (we!) lack training in effective writing mentorship. That's exactly why @bgmerkle.bsky.social and I wrote our forthcoming book, 'Teaching and Mentoring Writers in the Sciences" - our next month.

Very happy to share our new paper published in Current Biology !

We show that the “big bad wolf” actually fears humans for good reason.
It’s the first-ever playback experiment on wild wolves in Europe 🇵🇱🌲.

The Bureau of Land Management will "review and revise" the Rock Springs management plan to implement Trump energy directives, the agency said.

I’ve seen a Keith Haring mural in person my life is complete
A Keith Haring mural of a bunch of little colorful guys dancing. Some are solid colors, and others have various doodles that evoke the feeling of a bowling alley carpet (complimentary).

Hugely concerning to see layoffs threatened since April may move ahead at Dept of the Interior. Our Climate Adaptation Science Center colleagues at USGS have already lost 30% of their team from retirements, buyouts and layoffs; DOI has lost 11% on average. Planned layoffs may double these losses.
The Interior Department is taking steps to implement layoffs
After a series of delays, DOI is preparing RIF lists as it looks to implement significant personnel cuts in the coming weeks.

#SciArtSeptember 13 - Bottleneck

We almost lost the last wild horses. At the end of the 1950s, there were only 12 Przewalski's horses left.

After decades of conservation efforts, there are now a couple thousand horses living in zoos and conservation areas in several countries, from Spain to China.
A wide, panorama-type illustration showing 12 Przewalski's horses in a crescent formation. They are in calm poses, some standing and watching the viewer, others slowly walking towards them.
