I feel like I could live with the brass neck - it is the seemingly successful way that he and others have brainwashed themselves into thinking “our crumbling justice system” has an explanation beyond “we didn’t spend enough money on it” that I can’t stand.
The brass neck is pretty incredible.

only in the small print of this article do they make clear that the pensioners paying an extra £2,500 of tax would have to have
“earnings over £125,140”

I know many pensioners are asset rich but how many have income at that level?

Could Katie Lam identify the London schools where "more than three-quarters of children don’t speak English to a serviceable school standard". Well done to @davehillonlondon.bsky.social for giving Lam + CPS the chance to substantiate this claim at the Tory fringe

The National Audit Office estimates the overall cost of capping high gas prices in winter 22/23 alone at £69 billion. Higher than the £40bn quoted by Gov.

That's over a fifth of the entire cost of upgrading to a 21st Century fossil-free energy system.
The UK Gov’s expert advisers have shown that investing to transiton from expensive gas to clean energy will save the UK nearly £40 billion every year!

Most people can’t afford the up-front investment, but the UK absolutely can.

Tackling climate change isn’t just about protecting people.

Found out about this one from the Labour press release condemning it, and it was a real trip to learn that this wasn’t “a Labour staffer with a tape recorder at a private event” story but a “she just said it on national TV” story.

A persistent insanity in political punditry is the way the left get henpecked to death by the press over the "how" of their policies, whereas the right get to just blurt out a "why" and receive a free pass on the "how" if the "why" seems compelling enough to divorced dads without visitation rights.

In November 2022, Christopher Harborne (a.ka. Chakrit Sakunkrit) donated £1 million to "The Office of Boris Johnson Ltd", one of the biggest donations ever made to an individual British politician.
Boris Johnson awarded Harborne £80m MoD contract in January 2023.
Is there a name for this process?

Idi Amin deported 80,000 Asians from Uganda in 1972. So although the Conservatives want to propose the first mass deportation of legal migrants since Idi Amin - especially with the retrospective changes in ILR - Lam is proposing to deport 20 times as many people as Idi Amin.

"The idea of deporting people with settled status is disgusting, and anyone proposing it should be immediately drummed out of polite society. Breaking promises made in good faith to our friends and neighbours is racist, extremist and immoral."

I'm basically shouting at the sky here, but still.
It’s racist, it’s extremist and it’s immoral
The right is still calling for deportations, and the government is still being cowardly about it. Also: London’s first green belt; some notes on a shark; and some news, on my next book.
