TikTok shut down tonight—almost exactly 8 years to the day since Vine closed on January 17, 2017. One Venus cycle ago. A perfect repetition.

Man, I’ve been bored these last few hours. Not gonna lie, I def opened the TikTok app a few times out of habit. The withdrawals are REAL!

Hour one without tiktok. I went outside and built a fire from leaves and sticks. I foraged for my dinner and died from listeria

It’s depressing to me how many amazing creative people I saw on TikTok, the friends I made, and how much I learned there and now it’s gone.

It for real changed my life and wasn’t perfect, but was probably the best online place we’ve ever had for learning, connecting, and creating community

Yall do realize tiktok was the fastest media outlet there is. They got the news before media outlets got ahold of a story. They solved crimes before police so much they had to be asked to stop by law enforcement.

TikTok isn’t just dances… I see why they call this the millennial graveyard now.

Just a reminder of some of the context around the TikTok ban: In 2020, Trump tried to ban it via executive order a couple months after K-pop fans used it to organize fake signups to Trump’s Tulsa rally, which led him to publicly overestimate how large the crowd size would be.

I cried a little then picked my phone up and automatically hit the TikTok app. I forgot.
