We've been hearing announcements about possible artificial blood for as long as I've been in medicine and research (30+ years at this point) and none of them have ever panned out. Sooner or later, presumably, one of them will—and if this turns out to it, great. But I'm not holding my breath. ⚕️🧪
Scientists are developing artificial blood that could save lives in emergencies
A research team has successfully tested a blood substitute in animals, and human trials may not be far off. The powdered blood could help medics respond faster in a crisis.

Your cognitively intact elderly parent may make decisions that you disagree with. They may even make decisions that could shorten their life.

They have the right to make these decisions.

It’s OK for you to not like this and also not try to control or change it.

New screening guidelines for osteoporosis were finalized this week.

For women 65+, you should screened with a DEXA scan.

For those who are post-menopausal and under 65 but with risk factors like significant alcohol or tobacco use, earlier screening is recommended.

I made this flubber model in 2008 & still show it all the time to teach about glacier ice flow in a valley & related topics. I’ve used this to talk about basics of glaciers with grade school students up to deriving shear & normal strain rates, & vorticity, with undergrad & grad students! Enjoy! 🧪
