What's funny is that it is pointing at a major flaw in trump's character. The guy literally fell asleep standing during his own conferences later because he couldn't control his impulse and appetite to speak with journalists and took a call at 4am. Doesn't seem ideal!

I still remember that one complaint of the Biden years was that they wouldn’t immediately answer questions and would instead refer them to the experts who could. And they used this to say they weren’t answering questions!

Speaking with the president is not the same as getting newsworthy information from the president. And Trump's dishonesty can often lead to unhelpful "Trump said" articles, in which what he says is centered, rather than the truth. I suspect it also leads to the excessive emphasis on Trump's moods.
