ROU Did You Mean to do That?
Really enjoyed this Heated Rivalry take from the romance perspective.
Just spent an hour chatting with romance authors Joanna Shupe & Adriana Herrera about what makes Heated Rivalry a great ROMANCE adaptation.

#AshmoleanAdvent Day 21: Snowy Bridge

Today’s advent calendar treat is a woodblock print titled Yuhi Hill and Drum Bridge at Meguro by Japanese master printmaker Utagawa Hiroshige.

The unusual arched bridge in this wintry landscape was known as a ‘drum bridge’ because of its shape.

I have been loving this show, but as is clearly stated in the thread below it is a fantasy! Romance is fantasy and not an instruction manual.

Enjoy the fun TV show without pulling real people into the fantasy.
Again, I truly *loved* this week’s episode of Heated Rivalry, but IT IS A WISH FULFILLMENT ROMANCE. The success of a gay hockey romance TV show, largely watched by people who are neither hockey players nor hockey fans, is not “proof that the world is ready and all we would do is love you”

Why use wings when you can just engage missile mode?
This downy woodpecker male was foraging among the spruce trees, and decide that for this short journey, wings were not needed!

Will the sleet turn to snow and become a blizzard as warned? Or will there be nothing but ice on every surface? Or blizzard snow on top of ice? All roads lead to not fun in the morning.

My sister gave me a wreath at one of her high school students made as part of a fundraising program they do every year. I happened to have some small lights laying around and I think they came together well.

They are one of the tiny little birds that stay with us year round. In the winter they are especially busy, constantly foraging and talking.
This red-breasted nuthatch has just plucked a small nut from a spruce cone and will either eat or stash it for later.

A male Downy Woodpecker perches on a snowy branch. Males tend to forage more on small branches and plant stems, while females are more often found foraging on larger branches and tree trunks. This is due to the males chasing off the females from the better food spots

"And in truth, the stories where the princesses rescued themselves were my favorites anyway."

Check out this excerpt from @jessiemihalik.com's Silver & Blood, a new steamy romantasy about monsters, curses, and a woman who decides to take matters into her own hands:

Y'all the latest episode of the #Kilauea #eruption just went CRAZY. It looks like pressure built up enough to explode out the ground around the two existing vents (first few seconds), leading to a massive surge in lava fountaining.🌋🤯

Y'all this past week I've seen some baffling takes on Heated Rivalry by people who have zero knowledge or enjoyment of romance novels, romance narratives, or sex scenes as a storytelling device. "Uh where's the romance? Why are they boning so much???"

The talk around Heated Rivalry is making me reconsider subscribing only after the whole season has dropped.
This is fucking exquisite and I would like to give the final line all the awards
There's a lot of talk about the steaminess of #HeatedRivalry, but there are more reasons to watch. Jacob Tierney's direction and the microexpression work of the actors is sublime — especially as mainstream American-produced streaming prioritizes "passive viewing."

Highly recommended. I wish it didn’t feel relevant to today.
And as a woman, of course, this involved several additional layers of calculation. You can read all about it in my book.

I don’t get why they didn’t drop him back in 2005 based on his comments about women. Based on what we’ve got from these emails, I’m sure that would have been a better choice.
Per CNN, Elizabeth Warren is calling on Harvard to cut ties with Larry Summers after Jeffrey Epstein's emails released last week by House Dems featured Summers making sexist comments + asking for Epstein’s romantic advice.

This really highlights what I don’t see working with AI in code over the long term - where does the new training data come from?

I also mainly work in the embedded space. I rarely find writing the code to be the hard part. Figuring out what the code needs to do is the hard part.

Here's one of the main reasons why I'm 100% sure AI is in a bubble, regardless of any potential "success" it has in the next 6-12 months.

Right now the majority of AI "success" at scale has been found in AI coding tools for software engineers.
