I’m seeing a lot of people post that Spanberger has ended the ICE contracts.

She may well do so soon (it’s only day 2), and we’ll keep you informed, but that’s not what she did yesterday. The contracts are still in place — she would still have to decide to do that.
Abigail Spanberger did not end Virginia’s 287(g) partnership with ICE yesterday, despite reports to the contrary.

What Spanberger did do is rescind Glenn Youngkin’s order that required the state police + DOC to sign ICE contracts. She terminated the requirement, but not the contracts themselves.

Here are 8 successful *proposals* for academic books/monographs. I am hoping that these help someone who is starting out trying to write one and wants to see what worked for me. They are provided as examples, rather than exemplars. A lot of it was just finding my own way eve.gd/2026/01/16/s...

This is a big reason why I've been trying to use physical media at my library whenever it's on offer, even if there are digital options.

Anyway, if your local library has a friends of the library chapter, set up a recurring donation and help your library out.
No surprise to librarians, but perhaps surprising to users, demands/prices for ebooks /audiobooks are killing public library budgets. David Szalay's book, Flesh,” costs DCPL:
$28.99 hardcopy
$59.99 ebook
$69.99 audiobook
DCPL owns hardcopy; rents & must repurchase ebook & audio book every 2 yrs.
Libraries can't afford e-books. D.C. lawmakers have a plan.
The demand and price for e-books is up — and it’s busting the D.C. Public Library budget.

I was really pleased to see a chapter on romance novels in a volume about history/historical memory: it shows they have value to historians.

This is all about forcing people who cannot afford healthcare insurance to work for subminimum wage in combination server-dishwasher jobs in rural Missouri AND bump people with disability exemptions off the rolls via bureaucracy incompetency by design.
Republicans push to put Medicaid work requirements into Missouri constitution • Missouri Independent
The proposal, if approved by voters, would make it more difficult for Missouri to reverse Medicaid work requirements if federal law changes.

This month (January) we need desperate help with bills including electric and rent. Like, around $1,500 total. And I've been trying not to post this too much but it's getting down to the wire.
Hi everyone I can't find the ongoing post I made but while I'm working again Lexi is still trying to find a job and we are not doing great financially. This week we could really use assistance paying water and electricity. All shares and help are very appreciated 💖!

This year, I'm looking to raise money for an organization that helps trans people in Alberta.

If you know of any orgs helping, please let me know below.
