Few things more ominous and infuriating than the European “wake up call” to prepare for a warfare state while cutting social spending alongside a gleeful chattering class which pretends this is a moral crusade against the fascist machinations of the US administration.

If you and Martin Wolf have the same position on Trump, what should you do?

I do follow a lot of economists, so I'm not surprised my feed is dominated by tariff apoplexy.
Too many assumptions that Trump won't arrive at a workable tariff policy.

538 was bad for journalism.
As reported, the entire staff of 538 was laid off this morning. This is a severe blow to political data journalism, and I feel for my colleagues. Readers note: As we were instructed not to publish any new content, all planned updates to polls data and averages are canceled indefinitely. Huge loss :(

Obstfeld's loyalty to American agency probably isn't just a matter of patriotism. I suspect that it is mainly because for his models of the US economy to work, the US must have total agency, which means, in a globalized world, that the rest of the world cannot.

He cannot consider the idea that domestic saving rates in these countries can be driven by domestic policies and conditions, and can in turn drive the savings rates of the US, even though it is an economy with a totally open capital account, a very flexible and...

So is China's extraordinarily high savings rates, or the moderately low savings rate of the US, more likely to have caused the global savings imbalances? As a good American, Obstfeld cannot imagine that foreigners could determine US saving rates.

I’m ready to go on the road in California and start hosting town halls - in Republican districts. If GOP House members won’t hold town halls in their districts, we will.

Look "Trump take egg" is ultimately silly but the core that actually works is

1) people are mad about eggs being expensive
2) associate Trump with the problem and blame him for it

You want the concepts "trump" and "no egg" to be adjacent in people's heads and Trump Take Egg jams them together
I get this, it’s funny, I’m not trying to pick on Ben or anyone. But it’s worth thinking about the appeal and audience of the “Trump take egg” stuff: not actual persuadable Americans, but committed anti-Trump people who THINK that this is how you need to talk to persuadable Americans

Tl;dr the Teamsters are working with Josh Hawley and Cory Booker to try to pass legislation that’ll end up killing strikes and shoving an arbitrator’s contract down the throats newly organized workers.
The FAST Act — which is basically the binding arbitration included in EFCA but excluded from PRO — is basically an administrative remedy to coerce a median settlement without addressing that the parties are not coming to the table on a level playing field.

‼️ THE COVID HOMICIDE WAVE HAS OFFICIALLY ENDED (at least in cities) ‼️

The quietly-released Major Cities Chief Assn violent crime data showed homicides fell by ~17%, to levels below those in 2020; higher still than 2019 (w 2 fewer agencies reporting), but lower than 2016 and 2017.

This is BIG NEWS!

Sara is the President of @afacwa.org — an experienced and effective union leader on the frontlines of keeping American travelers safe — and I’m thrilled she’ll be joining me.
