Okay, time for a real introduction…

My name is Zack and I’m a huge nerd who loves talking about video games, film, television, books, and all sorts of art/entertainment. I also run a video game review blog called Sight-In Games (link in bio).

Let me know what you’re watching/playing/reading!
Just caught up on the Xbox Partner Showcase and now I’m regretting canceling Game Pass 😅

Rue Valley is a brilliantly written time loop narrative RPG. Investigating the many secrets of a dusty motel is but the first step of an intricate conspiracy.

My review:
Rue Valley Review – You Will Rue The Day You Skip This - Pixelbytegaming
Not a single day in our lives is repeated. From the moment we wake up to the elusive instant we drift away in our sleep, nothing we do is ever the same. Yes, it could be similar, but the thoughts that...

Demonschool review: Drag Me to Hell
Demonschool Review | RPG Site
Demonschool is clearly inspired by the horror hits of the early aughts, yet it produces a thrilling strategy game that stands on its own two devilish hooves.

Tales of Berseria is the only game in that series that I’ve played, but I loved it and I’m excited to see it come back with higher frame rate/resolution and some quality of life features. I should also probably play more games in this series. 😅

To all my fellow graphic novel fans… read Drome.

Jesse Lonergan has crafted an epic that’s equal parts creation myth, love story, and action spectacle. The art is gorgeous, the story is captivating, and the way it plays with the framing of its panels is one of the coolest things I’ve seen all year.

If I'm being honest, as someone who got 76% of their Game Awards predictions right, not all that much shocked me when the nominations dropped yesterday 😉.

But inevitably, there's always at least a few surprises. Here are my 6 biggest.

When I started blogging around 2012-2013 on the old MyIGN blogs (R.I.P.), one of the things I did was run a Daily Question series. It was a fun and simple way to connect with people and strike up interesting conversations in the community, and I think about it often.

What if I bring it back? 🤔

Played around an hour of Where Winds Meet and just wasn’t feeling it. The character creation was a bit buggy, the lack of subtitle/text scaling meant I had issues reading through the menus, and I simply don’t have the time to devote to another big F2P game. Combat is pretty neat, though.

Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

Finished my Stranger Things rewatch before the final season starts up next week. This show still stands out as a thoroughly engaging blend of sci-fi/action/horror/comedy and it flows so much better when you aren’t waiting 2-3 years between seasons.

This! It's always okay to get books (digital, print, audio) from the library because the library purchases it! Please ask your local library to get books they may not have on shelves.
I remember someone apologizing for constantly checking my audiobooks out from the library instead of buying them on Audible, and they were surprised that three library checkouts of Eyrie probably earned me more royalties than Audible would've paid me for a purchase via credit. ($2.70 vs $1.80).
Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Unfortunately, if you want to play Dispatch, you are officially a bit too late for it to feel like the event that it was.

But, you should still play it, because it's easily the best narrative game this year for me.

The big race sequence in Mafia: The Old Country is the fastest I have gone from loving a game to being furiously annoyed with it in my entire life. I’ve failed this mission six times now due to poor controls and an absolute nightmare of a track.
