Cutting family ties Sir, I was very pleased to read Sarah Ditum’s article on estrangement (“Stick with family, whatever it says online”, comment, Dec 24). I am a relationship and family therapist and have witnessed a rapidly increasing number of young adults cutting ties with parents, siblings and often their entire families. We seem to be living in a culture where it is acceptable to go “no contact” with one’s parents. There are support groups on Reddit and TikTok where heartless attitudes and often cruel behaviour towards parents are actively encouraged. Going “no contact” can apparently be viewed as an act of heroism and a sign of independence, while parents are left devastated and heartbroken. I am an estranged mother of five years. I worry that we are rapidly moving towards a society of self-absorbed and entitled individuals who have no time, affection or care for their parents. The notion of family seems to have been utterly devalued by some online influencers who are shaping young people’s attitudes in a detrimental way. The Next One Here's what's going to happen next. Somewhere, right now, a trans person is teaching a class, or coaching a team, or working at a library, or providing healthcare. They're doing their job. They're probably good at it. And at some point, someone is going to have a problem with them. Maybe a parent, maybe a student, maybe a coworker. The problem won't really be about job performance. The problem will be that they're trans. That person, or someone connected to them, will take their grievance to social media. If they're lucky, Libs of TikTok will pick it up. Or Turning Point. Or one of the other accounts that have built massive followings by turning trans people into content. The post will frame the trans person as a predator, or a groomer, or a bully, or a tyrant. It won't matter what actually happened. The framing is the point. Then the calls will start. To the school board, to the administration, to the HR department. Local news will cover the "controversy." A state legislator will demand an investigation. The institution, desperate to make the problem go away, will put the trans person on leave. Maybe they'll be fired outright. Maybe they'll resign because the harassment makes it impossible to do their job. Either way they're gone. And then the person who started it all will go on Fox News. They'll get a GoFundMe. Maybe a speaking gig at a conservative conference. If the story is big enough, if it goes viral enough, they might get something more. A podcast. A book deal. A center with their name on it. This is not a guess. This is a pattern. We've watched it happen over and over again, and we will keep watching it happen until the institutions that capitulate to these campaigns start recognizing them for what they are: coordinated attempts to purge trans people from public life, dressed up as individual controversies.

Samantha's Essay This article was very thought provoking and caused me to thoroughly evaluate the idea of gender and the role it plays in our society. The article discussed peers using teasing as a way to enforce gender norms. I do not necessarilv see this as a problem. God made male and female and made us differently from each other on purpose and for a purpose. God is very intentional with what He makes, and I believe trying to change that would only do more harm. Gender roles and tendencies should not be considered "stereotypes". Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. God created men in the image of His courage and strength, and He created women in the image of His beauty. He intentionally created women differently than men and we should live our lives with that in mind. TPUSA OU Samantha's Essay 2 It is frustrating to me when I read articles like this and discussion posts from my classmates of so many people trying to conform to the same mundane opinion, so they do not step on people's toes. I think that is a cowardly and insincere way to live. It is important to use the freedom of speech we have been given in this country, and I personally believe that eliminating gender in our society would be detrimental, as it pulls us farther from God's original plan for humans. It is perfectly normal for kids to follow gender "stereotypes" because that is how God made us. The reason so many girls want to feel womanly and care for others in a motherly way is not because they feel pressured to fit into social norms. It is because God created and chose them to reflect His beauty and His compassion in that way. In Genesis, God says that it is not good for man to be alone, so He TPUSA OU Samantha's Essay 3 created a helper for man (which is a woman). Many people assume the word "helper" in this context to be condescending and offensive to women. However, the original word in Hebrew is "ezer kenegdo" and that directly translates to "helper equal to". Additionally, God describes Himself in the Bible using "ezer kenegdo", ≥ or "helper", and He describes His Holy Spirit as our Helper as well. This shows the importance God places on the role of the helper (women's roles). God does not view women as less significant than men. He created us with such intentionally and care and He made women in his image of being a helper, and in the image of His beauty. If leaning into that role means I am "following gender stereotypes" then I am happy to be following a stereotype that aligns with the gifts and abilities God gave me as a woman. TPUSA OU Samantha's Essay I do not think men and women are pressured to be more masculine or feminine. I strongly disagree with the idea from the article that encouraging acceptance of diverse gender expressions could improve students' confidence. Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth. I do not want kids to be teased or bullied in school. However, pushing the lie that everyone has their own truth and everyone can do whatever they want and be whoever they want is not biblical whatsoever. The Bible says that our lives are not our own but that our lives and bodies belong to the Lord for His glory. I live my life based on this truth and firmly believe that there would be less gender issues and insecurities in children if they were. raised knowing that they do not belong to themselves, but they belong to the Lord 4 TPUSA OU

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I genuinely thought that as a trans woman, if ceded some points with the gender critical crowd we could have a healthier conversation and arrive at better public policy. The problem is, they are getting crazier and more extreme. If you admit "trans women don't belong in women's sports" they agree, but call you a man the whole time. If you admit, "I understand I am a biological man, but this is how I want to live my life and talking about me like this is degrading" they scream about free speech. If you admit that hurtful language is part of free speech but you don't have to associate with people that degrade you, they act like the victim and call you a man and then say you should be thrown in an insane asylum. It's like this on everything. They are incapable of looking for a middle ground on bathrooms. They want maximalist policies on everything. They'd throw a fully transitioned, fully passing trans woman in male prison genpop and laugh as she got aids from being raped. I want a middle ground on so many of these polices. BUT THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IS THEY DO NOT. They enjoy degrading us, it's fun for them. So, sisters. I genuinely don't know what to do. I think many of our most extreme ideas are bad. But theirs are worse. So if I have to pick, I choose us. I wish there were a political vehicle for compromise and medical safeguarding. But that just simply does not exist.
