Another thing we can take from Lebanon is that while this deal may halt mass killing, smaller scale killings are likely to continue regardless.

One thing I learned from the Lebanon ceasefire agreement is that I'll only believe it when I see it.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

For the first two years of college, literally every paper I wrote was written the night before it was due, fueled entirely by Entenmann's Glazed Pop'Ems. (It was a stunning worldview shift in my third year when I realized I could just...start thinking about the paper earlier...and not be stressed.)

I wrote a lit crit paper in grad school about The Anxiety of Influence, Elliott Smith, & and the Beatles and included a burned CD. GenAI could never.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

I wrote an in-class essay on Hamlet, which I had not read, based solely on a quote on a poster that happened to be hanging on the wall in the classroom. Got an A. AI absolutely could never (although tbh this puts me a lot closer to AI bullshit than I would like).

The weird layer about all these IDF propaganda videos is that I think even the people who concoct them kind of believe them.

One of the earlier and most-viewed examples was an animation of Al Shifa Hospital, published in October 2023.

The “underground command room” was recycled from a 2022 IDF animation of an UNRWA school in Tel Al-Hawa; the street above was built from prefab @kb-3d.bsky.social storefronts

I’ve been spending too much time here anyway. I’m taking this and the other moderation issues as a good nudge to step away for a while.

Our house dictionary had these big color plates in the middle, all illustrated categories of things, and I finally realized that’s why I know the names of water birds even though I grew up in a landlocked state.

I did this unknowingly when I was studying Arabic. One of my teachers was like “you have such a big vocabulary!” It was months before I realized she meant it in a bad way, and I’d been using totally weird and antiquated words for everything. But the dictionary was just so full of cool words!!

So a CBP officer tried to murder a US citizen because she shared a post that identified a different CBP officer who assaulted a protester?

When it should really be a story about how the government is off the rails in arresting undocumented people! It’s what all the stories should be about!
zoraoneill.com
This nut graf suggests the story will be about how work documentation systems failed. Instead it’s about this man’s pretty commendable work history, and quotes from people who are mad because they’re embarrassed they somehow couldn’t tell he was undocumented.

"How could someone the government says should be removed from the country have risen to lead the public school system of a large American city?"

That's a framing for a newspaper that's just one step away from being state media. Is that what the @nytimes.com wants?

Or at least follow up on the single vaguely damning detail in his work history—the bit about people settling a claim they were mistreated. Or maybe they did follow up and it was just as much of a non-story as everything else.

Who’s shocked, for that matter, that someone undocumented became America’s most beloved online commentator on men’s fashion and walkable cities? Now is a good opportunity to reexamine your assumptions of what it means to be undocumented.

It's 2025. Dreamers have been in the headlines for a decade. The median DACA recipient is a millennial in their 30s.

75% of Dreamers were pursuing a bachelor's degree or more, per one survey.

Who's shocked that someone undocumented became a school leader?
