For the first two years of college, literally every paper I wrote was written the night before it was due, fueled entirely by Entenmann's Glazed Pop'Ems. (It was a stunning worldview shift in my third year when I realized I could just...start thinking about the paper earlier...and not be stressed.)

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

Our house dictionary had these big color plates in the middle, all illustrated categories of things, and I finally realized that’s why I know the names of water birds even though I grew up in a landlocked state.

I did this unknowingly when I was studying Arabic. One of my teachers was like “you have such a big vocabulary!” It was months before I realized she meant it in a bad way, and I’d been using totally weird and antiquated words for everything. But the dictionary was just so full of cool words!!
