“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

British Muslim Trust response to arson attack on East Sussex mosque, exemplifying fears of anti-Muslim attacks to 'retaliate' for the murderous attack at the Manchester synagogue. "We encourage everyone to come together in solidarity and stand united against hateful rhetoric against any community"

The green economy is growing, emissions are falling & air quality is improving.

There is still an immense amount of work to do to tackle climate change, but the worst thing we could do is to give up.

Proud to sign this letter, urging Kemi Badenoch not to try and dump the Climate Change Act.

For ~20yrs the Climate Change Act has powered clean growth & climate action

Proud to co-ordinate 124 MPs & Peers to urge the Conservatives, don’t scrap it

Turning climate leadership into a political football puts our economy, security & children’s future at risk

Further reminder - some of those currently trying to weaponise yesterday’s tragedy to fuel Islamophobia have a documented history of antisemitism. As @zackpolanski.bsky.social says ‘Islamophobia and antisemitism are two sides of the same coin’.

Article reads:
Woman named as Archbishop of Canterbury in historic first

The 63-year-old archbishop-designate is married to Eamonn Mullally, with whom she has two children. Originally from Woking in Surrey, she was the UK's chief nursing officer from 1999 to 2004.

So sorry Rachel. I can’t imagine how hard this is. It’s unfathomable. Take time to care for yourself today.

On Yom Kippur many Jewish people in Britain have their phones off to mark the holy day.

As it ends at 723pm, some will hear the tragic Manchester news for the first time.

At that time, please join many of us to send a message of solidarity to British Jews. Thanks Together coalition for proposing.
To everyone in Britain's Jewish Community: you are not alone.

We will not let hate or those who spread it win.

Just as a point of reference, fewer people, on average, are provided with asylum, per year, under family reunification routes as attend an average Birmingham City home game. It really isn't a lot, but it is a vital route, and it isn't "automatic" as the routes are already restrictive. 2/

There is no such thing, as Starmer well knows, as a "golden ticket of resettlement and family reunion" for people who have been granted refugee status. This is meaningless guff aimed to play to populist fantasies that refugees get provided with everything. 1/

Starmer to end asylum ‘golden ticket’ of resettlement and family reunion rights
People granted asylum will have to earn right to invite family in plan charities call ‘straight from populist playbook’

This is a good example of something that *could* be a line drawn between Con & Ref, where Con voters are, broadly pro-environmental measures and they are popular with the broader public. And yet...

this study highlights that Long Covid remains a risk with every Covid infection, including for children and adolescents.

Particularly relevant as the Children's module opens for the UK Inquiry.

It's nonsense to say that children are and were at no risk from Covid.

“I would gently point out to Nigel Farage that before we left the EU we had a returns agreement with every country in the EU. He told the country it would make no difference if we left. He was wrong about that. These are Farage boats in many senses coming across the channel” 👏

OK, this was great. "If you say or imply that people cannot be English or British because of their colour of their skin… that people who lived here for generations, are our neighbours... if you say they should note be deported, we will fight you with everything we have."

Very good passage on Farage. "Decline is good for their business... When was the last time you heard Nigel Farage say anything positive about Britain's future? He doesn't like Britain... He wants you to doubt it as much as he does."
