#Ēostre
Ah, the wondrous cornucopia of entertainment possibilities in the Greater Shrewsbury metropolis! For most of us it's the monthly open-mic night, featuring the High-priestess of Eostre and her vole impersonations. Again.

Like a perfectly reasonable person the last day at my home in San Francisco was spent adoring our house spider for lunar New Year/Easter/Eostre/Valentine's day/St.Pat's. Who knows when I will be back but at least the spiders & my neighbours will enjoy it.

I decided my main was going to remain Eostre for Midnight! I love the Earthen so much!!

There's no debate that the Proto-Indo-European pantheon & mythologies have huge overlap. They have tons of gods & goddesses that are etymologically related. E.g. the dawn goddess *h₂éwsōs becomes *Auhṓs -> Eos in Greek, Aurora in Italy, Eostre in German, Uṣás in Vedic, Ušå in Avestan (early Iranian)

Eostre was a Saxon (etc) goddess, no?

In Celtic traditions, the pagan goddess Ēostre (Ostara) was associated with the hare, a symbol of spring and fertility, influencing the Easter bunny tradition as Christianity adopted the symbols.

Yeah it’s like the “Easter is actually a pagan festival” stuff (the word for Easter in the vast majority of Europe is based on “Passover,” the “Eostre” claim in English is Bede writing at least a century later about a goddess who isn’t attested elsewhere and it may just mean “spring” or “dawn”)

Eggs and rabbits etc have nothing to do with Christianity. It’s Eostre, a pagan festival of life, fertility etc

Christianity stole dates including 25th December, and other cultures/religions things and co-opted them to push in their own
Easter Eggs in Sainsbury’s. 2nd January. Jesus has only just been born and they’re revving up to celebrate his death with Chocolate Eggs

In Nin's village of Oakdore, they celebrate the solstice and equinoxes with a festival for all four, Autumn being Nin's favorite.

The hare is a primary symbol of spring, rebirth, and new beginnings. In a legend connected to the Germanic goddess Eostre (Ostara), the hare was her messenger, tasked with spreading hope and joy throughout the land at the spring equinox.
Art my own.

Jesus Claus 😂

They also don't like it when you point out that Christmas and Easter are stolen Pagan holidays. What do pine trees, ornaments and gifts have to do with Jesus? Why all the bunnies and chicks on Easter, or was that one really meant for Ēostre, the goddess of fertility?

An art gift for Chase, based on their play about Northern gods - Eostre, including (from left to right): Idunn, Osterhase, and Eostre herself

100%. But I didn't mention the regular meetings in the Sacred Grove in the Big Scary Forest* where we meet for drinks, a pot-luck supper, sacrifices, nude rituals** and praise of Eostre.

* Mead Hall if wet. Bring your own sacrificial victim.
** warm summer evenings only.

Now, let's talk about Eostre.
December 15, 2025 at 12:55 PM
See also their constant insistence that Easter was a purloined pagan rite called Eostre and argh argh argh argh arghhhhhhh
December 13, 2025 at 6:26 PM
Makes me think also of Easter, the English name of which drives from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Ēostre, who was honored by festivals in the same season as Pascal celebrations. It seems to be rather common for religious communities to borrow or co-opt holidays and names from each other.

PS Same goes for Easter...aka Ostara, named after the German Goddess Eostre. The decorating eggs and rabbits as symbols are all part of their rituals.

Eostre Bunny Valkyrie. 🗡

It feels to me a bit fake old- like the myth that Easter is really about Eostre- like fairies is too childish, so in fantasy we will take about the fae?
November 26, 2025 at 11:52 AM
Look, we live in a world in which a lot of people believe that because some Germanic tribes elided the seasonal name eostre to also denote the Christian Paschal celebration then that means that "Easter" (i.e., the passion and resurrection of Jesus) was stolen from the pagans.
