So when I hit a big reading slump a few years ago, the only thing that pulled me out was Danmei, which is gay Chinese Xianxia-fantasy.
I would HIGHLY recommend The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by MXTX. Stupid English name, but really incredible book. It's ASoFaI but Chinese and gay. SO GOOD!!

Eu sou da escola que o final é esse da série mesmo e a reação foi tão desanimadora que o Martin perdeu a motivação. Antes da série eu era membro do forum Asofai e lá todo mundo tinha certeza que a mãe do Jon era a Lianna Stark e todo mundo achava que a Dani não era a heroína que ela fingia ser.

the whole brandon sanderson asofai thing is stupid because its a very entitled gesture, but this kind of take re:canon and all broadly is just as annoying imho

Had to silence notifications on this. I really don't care what happens with the ASOFAI books. If they come out, great. If not, I'll live. I'm not a GRRM fan, I'm just not a fan of entitled fandoms.

Also doesn't help that he's a old school Golden Age scifi nerd, and ASOFAI is obviously a social science sf in fantasy drag. You can only keep up the act for so long before it starts to chafe and get uncomfortable.

The problem with the author doesn't owe you anything approach is that the reader doesn't owe anybody anything either. Would I have started Kingkiller or ASoFaI, had I known they'd likely been unfinished? Nope. Particularly KK was sold under false pretences effectively. 1/2

That’s fair for sure, I like Sanderson but he’s far from without faults.
I enjoyed ASOFAI and GRRM did a lot incredibly well, but the cycle of building a story to cut off its head became less shocking and more like inability work through narratives

The ongoing problem for me is that it’s been three years since the third book and nothing has been published which is becoming uncomfortably like ASOFAI

God only knows how I'll pitch this to agents. People I've been talking to about it say Game of Thrones/ASOFAI for a comp. But it's really more from danmei & C-dramas. Or the way I've felt with those. Except more flavours of romance. And characters of colour. Anyway, glad I got to write it all!

Yes, the old usenet and forums for fantasy were less active for GRRM. I think until the show ASOFAI did not appeal to as wide an audience, I read both as they released, I liked ASOFAI but they were a bit violent for me, and I've never had the desire to re-read them.

I know people like to say Brandon Sanderson is gonna have to finish ASOFAI, but seriously I don’t think the man has the time with his own projects. I worry he will finish Stormlight Archive much less someone else’s work.
