A federal judge has greenlit a defamation suit against former police chief Rodney Bryant, accused of falsely labeling a protester as one of Atlanta's worst criminals.

On Jan. 5, Atlanta’s leaders gathered at Georgia State University’s Convocation Center to celebrate the inauguration of the city’s new and returning leadership. The event, led by Masters of Ceremonies Lori Geary, host of The Georgia Gang, and Jorge Estevez, anchor for WSB-TV, drew attendance from Congress members Sen. Raphael Warnock, Rep. Lucy McBath, and Rep. Nikema Williams; former Atlanta mayors Ambassador Andrew Young, Shirley Franklin, and Kasim Reed; and Valerie Jackson and Sandra Massell, representing their late husbands and former mayors Maynard Jackson and Sam Massell.

A Georgia federal judge has denied Atlanta's ex-police chief's bid to escape a defamation suit from a protester who says he was falsely accused of being a violent gang member, ruling that the suit sufficiently alleged the chief deliberately lied in public statements.

The Cleveland Browns have fired coach Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. Stefanski is the fourth NFL coach fired this season, joining Tennessee’s Brian Callahan, the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll and Atlanta’s Raheem Morris. The Browns won their final two games to finish 5-12, including a 20-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The 43-year-old Stefanski is a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year.

As the regular season concludes for the NFL this weekend, firings have already started for the Atlanta Falcons, who have decided to part ways with head coach Raheem Morris and General Manager Terry Fontenot. Morris spent two seasons as Atlanta’s HC, also serving as an assistant coach from 2015 to 2020, and was hired as head coach in 2024. He was unable to produce a playoff appearance in either season.
