Think about these very matters yesterday after landing in Manchester (aka Cottonopolis) and taking the train up through Leeds to York.

The North’s crumbling brick buildings are abandoned assets capitalized with stolen Indigenous lands and and extracted from African labor.

Staying inside today due to threatening weather. Currently prepping my talk for tomorrow about two nineteenth-century industrial Gothic places: Cottonopolis (Lowell) and Linenopolis (Belfast). Wed 28 Jan at 4.15, Wolfson Room, Seamus Heaney Centre. If you're at Queens, you're very welcome to join!

So, I've not looked at the shop for a bit, but do grab Abraxus Elijah Honey, Green Laughing, Adventures in LovE, and/or Cottonopolis while they're there.

I'm probably forgetting loads of what I've read right now, but my brain is mush from plotting my next thing...

Anyway, buy books yay.
Absolutely! Some of the non-historical authors want to make a decision about staying or not once the warehoused stock has gone, and some are staying with us as print on demand as well, so anything in the shop is available while it's listded 👍

I live in a city that was built on the cotton trade - literally nicknamed "Cottonopolis". Left wing patriots love the beautiful buildings we have here and tell prideful stories about the ingenuity, craftsmanship and hard work that built the old trade union halls and mutual society buildings.

This week in 1875 the ball on the top of Manchester Town Hall clock tower was put in position. The gilt ball represents a cotton boll, shining over Cottonopolis. The ball is 79 cm in diameter, and its 29 spikes are each 17 cm long.
