Not-fun fact: "cyclops" exist but not like in films: ~1 in 100,000 newborns have cyclopia, where the brain doesnt cleave into hemispheres. Sadly babies are stillborn or only live a few hours after birth 💔

Well you're a barrel of fun this morning
With fairness to peoples of the past, y'know, some woman pops out a baby with cyclopia one a generation or so, then making that connection isn't a wild leap.

These voices said, this could have been avoided, had they went for a checkup at public hospitals. The infant was born with cyclopia syndrome, chances of survival are nil.
Yet, I could not help but think the parents are scrutinized in such manner because they are poor.

#CANSA Ann Louw: Cyclopia = honeybush, used in fermented and green teas. Has phytoestrogenic potential. And tastes great, incidentally.

Mutations in the SHH gene basically cause duplication to not occur (cyclopia) or to occur too aggressively (diprosopus).

If we're editing out/preventing abnormalities, say, cyclopia, downs, MD, you know, things that make someone disabled from birth, then okay, but if we're editing for the " "perfect" genes such as specific features or traits then thats where ethics and mortality come into play

Yes please. I study the evolutionary developmental genetics of cyclopia using Branchiopods like Daphnia, Artemia and Triops. Implications for holoprosencephaly and midline development, in general.
