Also look, I know some studios might find it an erroneous cost, but...

Just look at how the modern Dune films, while still having problematic elements inherent to the books themselves, are getting more love for at the very least ATTEMPTING to do better. Let's do that with Jawas and the sandpeople.

I think they read Dune and thought it was inspirational and not, you know, a warning.

It's like with all the surveillance and prediction tech. Right out of Brave New World and 1984. Both of which were clearly warnings but somehow became inspiration to these assholes.

Finished Dune for my new year resolution of one book a month. Both liked it and disliked it. Would love to go back in the future and finish my notations. Biggest takeaway is that the movies really downplay what a maniac Paul's dad is.

I did slip and fall but it was in the snow and sand right at the very end so nothing hurt
Looking down at the ice I've been walking on. It is rough and slippery, constantly trying to twist the ankle, and endlessly precarious. Standing closer to shore the moon is hiding behind the trees again, and there is still a lot of snow and ice to cross. A gravestone nearly totally covered by snow. The sun is setting over lake Michigan between the gaps in the forest. Looking at lake Michigan from a dune top overlook. The sky and the water are sunset orange and the snowy shore is evening blue.

It's pretty rare for me to be able to see the moon rise from lake Michigan because the dunes with their forest are so tall.
Sitting near the edge of the ice around lake Michigan and looking back at shore. The moon is peeking through the forest on the sand dunes. A shadowed ridge of ice blocks the view of the beach, but the snowy sand dune is in orange light. Looking at more of the shore, there is a flat spot on the ice to the right and a deep drift of snow along the midline ridge. The moon has now risen above trees. The wooden stairs look small on shore and the dunes are much taller to the right. Looking down the coast at an even taller dune. It has been eroding away for the past few years from when the waves destabilized it.

I'm glad I took a moment to look back when I got halfway
Looking back at shore from a short ridge line of ice which rests approximately where the sandbar is. The sand dune is covered in snow with only a few patches of bare sand, but all of it is sunset color including the forest on top which has no leaves. An overlook on top of the sand dune looks small in the distance, and below it you can see my shadow on shore from where I'm standing. Looking down the coast from half down the ice, looking at the rows of ice balls in lines like waves on the water. Looking down the shore in the other direction. There are two people on the beach far in the distance. Steam from a power plant rises over the horizon. There are some footprints through a deep snow drift nearby.

Went to the beach for the sunset and moonrise for the full moon
Looking out at frozen lake Michigan. The wooden staircase casts a complicated pattern of lines in sunset orange colored snow. Icebergs float in the water past a long sheet of ice that rests on the shallow shore. A set of footprints cuts through the snow leading down the sand dune. The sun is bright near the horizon on this day with no clouds and it's turning the snow sand color. Tall hills of ice cast shadow on the field of ice below. Standing on the snow covered beach there is no protection from the wind. A wood post with a life preserver stands in the snow and a forest grows on top of the dunes. We are now standing on the edge of where ice meets land, where in the summer waves break. The sun's pale orange light shines on these weathered chunks of ice.
