Update: Writer James has a first name, which is Randall. While there IS a real author named Randall James, he mostly seems to write romance novels set on Cape May, so I suspect the name is coincidence.
The toddler has been telling us stories of their friend, Writer James, whom the toddler apparently knew when they were a teenager in college.

I don't think the display's supporting real VRR (I did not have enough time to do an EDID read-out). but it appears to sync to anything between 50 and 60 Hz, which is better than I expected. PANG arcade (57.x Hz) also ran just fine.

Why does a PlayStation 5 have to be so difficult to capture video from? Xbox, I can just hook up an Atomos and go to town. Xbox reads the EDID info and knows what to send. PS5 is like "WTFBBQ I'm just gonna send whatever I feel like, hope you selected the right options in the dev menu!" 🤬

Apparently the HTC Vive Pre *and only the Pre* has an EDID that specifies it's compatible with the YPbPr color format, when it's not.
There's also an undesirable behavior in the AMD drivers for Linux where if a display is compatible with YPbPr, it defaults to using that over RGB

If you search for "EDID dongle HDR" on Amazon, the first option is this one. It's also the cheapest one by far.

No better way to spend my day off than pouring over my monitor's EDID data to resolve an annoying bug that causes my monitors to 'switch positions.' It's some combo of macOS and my monitors. It's either my monitor or macOS's refusal to look at EDID extended data, but some more research is needed.

and issuing ' echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/{dridevice}/trigger_hotplug' will cause the graphics card to detect the new edid and send the new resolution to the monitor

I can’t tell if I want ICC (Color Consortium) to succeed or fail with their updated iccMAX (HDR) spec.
I respect the effort, and international standards are good, but I worry its a bit too little too late with how advanced codec containers & EDID data is now, plus ICC profiles drive me mad :p

I remember having to disable DisplayPort 1.4 on my monitor so macOS would stop outputting washed out colors. I think it was reading the color space from the EDID and using it without actually switching the display to HDR >_>

후 개인일정 마치고 귀가. 집에 와보니 hdmi 2.1케이블이 와 있어서 테스트 해봤는데 여전히 120fps 활성화가 안 된다 ㅋㅋㅋ 다시 좀 검색해보니 플스 문제로 120fps 이상 지원하는 모니터라고 다 되는 게 아니라는듯. EDID 에뮬레이터를 사다가 꼽으면 된다는데... 기능은 있는데 플스녀석이 지원하는 모니터라고 인식을 못해서 지금 다른 모니터라고 속여야 그 기능을 쓴다는 거잖아? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 🤦
