Is this an etrog?

No one expects an etrog to the face!

Etrog, who passed away in 2014, is best known for his abstracted figurative sculptures which represent the human body’s transformation in a mechanized, industrial world.

Given that searching the name gives me hits for a security researcher in Israel, I'd guess it was "etrog supplier" rather than "lemon salesman."

So *that’s* why the pitom on the etrog is crucial…got it!

We were passing by the rabbi's house today while walking Winston the Wonder Dog & stopped to say hello—and the rabbi presented me with a spare etrog, left over from last month's celebration of the holiday! 6/7

She'd only ever seen the etrog used during this ritual week, & hadn't realized that it has other uses, such as the fantastic & potent limoncello-adjacent liquor that my Calabrese family would pump into us in tiny glasses. 4/7

My wife is an Ashkenazi Jew. When we first visited Calabria together, she was delighted to find out about the cedro, b/c this fruit, called אֶתְרוֹג/etrog in Hebrew, plays a leading role in the celebration of the autumn harvest festival of Sukkot, a religious tradition that dates back to Exodus. 3/7

Guys, I want to write about a menorah pendant, but reply to help me pick which specific one:

1) With fake Hebrew
2) With grapevines (interesting bacchic thing going on)
3) With inscription indicating it is an amulet
4) Totally typical OG glass menorah pendant with shofar, lulav, & etrog

I’m only half kidding. This specific iconography appears in four main places that I’ve seen: 1) pendants like the one above, 2) grave inscriptions, 3) synagogue art, &…4) stamps for kosher bread like this 👇🏻 #Jewish

Jews in Late Antiquity wore menorah pendants like this to display their #Jewish identity, to express messianic hopes, to protect themselves from evil, & to indicate that they were kosher.

They really are. The weirder the better. Like, I love watching people shake the lulav & etrog. It’s so strange & old. Hard to describe to people who’ve not seen it without sounding unhinged
November 19, 2025 at 1:38 PM
oh the lulav and etrog is also by the same person as the golems
November 6, 2025 at 8:02 PM
The etrog is actually a later thing because we don’t know what tf they actually used at the time. It was some kind of citrus but it may not even exist anymore.

I was harassed non-stop by Jewish teenagers last month so I could shake a palm branch and the etrog! None of that is going to stop.

Say yes & seize the etrog in the name of the people.
