#Gatekeepers
Comes a few weeks after Danielle Smith derided courts as "gatekeepers" getting in way of democracy, and used legislation to quash judge's ruling on validity of separatist referendum. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Copyright laws give legacy gatekeepers more control, stifling grassroots innovation and emerging creators. We need a system that enables choice and new opportunities. eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Copyright Kills Competition
Copyright owners increasingly claim more draconian copyright law and policy will fight back against big tech companies. In reality, copyright gives the most powerful companies even more control over

He was doing what many have been saying white men should be doing. He went outside to observe, he documented, he put his body on the line to protect another person and for this he was murdered by the gatekeepers of the fascist regime.

The bargain of being hegemon was that you would shoulder the enormous cost of the enforcing international order at the much larger benefit of defining that order

With elite gatekeepers disempowered by the internet, the people who understand this don’t have the power to keep it alive.
"what happens if the USD loses safe harbour status but everyone else doesn't want to put in the work to make an alternative work?"
Once again, I ask how the math of other currencies replacing the dollar is going to go so long as neither 🇪🇺 nor 🇨🇳 is willing to do any of the things required to actually replace the dollar:

Ophelia learned magic the hard way, sneaking into locked libraries, copying spells by hand, and teaching herself what the gatekeepers refused to share. She has little patience for wizardly prestige, preferring quiet study and practical magic earned through long nights of reading.

Can't really just fire off an article on it, but parties are not public property; they are associations (in theory) of like-minded people. I'm okay with party gatekeepers setting limits on the choices available to people who might not be informed, paying attention, or even members of that party.
Serious question. Could you please elaborate why you think the smoke filled room is a better solution? Atlantic article would de good since I subscribed because of you.

Hackers could not predict botnets or personalized algorithmic feeds but it did recognize the importance of doing an end run or around information gatekeepers

They wait to be told what something means. This creates a dependency relationship. The audience feels safe because someone else is doing the sense-making for them. The goal is not to tell people that these gatekeepers are lying.

Ah the gatekeepers of games media are at it again. “Mutes and re-blocks”

With those truths we can move forward with a new strategy. New vectors of engagement and new tactics. Fractures slow the flow of information, increase internal contradictions, weaken trust in gatekeepers, and create exit ramps for a minority.

Today, @ec.europa.eu opened a process under the #DMA to regulate how #Google handles #interoperability within #Android.

The FSFE has been working intensively over the last two years to improve DMA interoperability against gatekeepers like #Apple and Google.

It's of a piece with how my opinion of modern anti woke grifters is even lower than the one I had of gamer bros on Xbox live or message boards, there's a particular flavor of expression to assholes who have actually played videogames that's missing from modern gatekeepers

Labeler operators become gatekeepers. This creates opportunities for protection rackets, ideological capture and social capital extraction.

We've known for at least 30 years about the unique threats that right wing extremism poses to our democracy. But our so-called gatekeepers of neutrality never really let us talk about them seriously. Doing so was coded as "partisan" and therefore off-limits.

It's a good thing there's not any gatekeepers on BlueSky, since discoverability sucks on here.

Oh, wait... there are. And there's plenty of them. Lovely, isn't it. It's becoming another echo chamber.

Don't let anyone talk down to or insult you if your posts are about cooking, sports, pets, movies, celebrities, art...whatever, and aren't about politics/world events 24/7.

Most of us can multi-task.

Last thing we need are gatekeepers or Post Police.

A break from this shit storm is welcome IMO.

How do algorithms shape us? 🤖

My new chapter with Natalie Stoljar, "Automated Gatekeepers," is out! We analyze how recommender systems negatively impact autonomy, and how they could be redesigned to support it.

Automated Gatekeepers: How Recommender Systems Shape and Constrain Autonomy
This chapter explores the impact of recommender systems on autonomy. We draw on feminist relational approaches to argue that recommender systems can threaten autonomy in four key ways. (i) Recommender...

It's even more frustrating to be told repeatedly on that call that @avilewis.ca is great at Listening™ - but also that 👉even the caller has no actual mechanism to get through the back-room gatekeepers and get the guy to listen👈.

Apparently my best bet is to volunteer, and hope that buys me access.

Take action with us: Tell Apple and Google: Remove Grok from App Stores!
✍️ ➡️ stmp.link/removegrok

Apple and Google prohibit apps that facilitate sexual exploitation or fail to protect users. App stores are gatekeepers. Continuing to host Grok despite mounting evidence of harm puts victims at risk!
