🌳 Why does the Suburban Plan matter to the Halifax Backlands? 🌲

About half of the #HalifaxBacklands are bordered by Suburban Areas (light blue on the map below), including Spryfield, Herring Cove, Williams Lake and Ravenscraig. 4/7

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that crews are focused on clearing main roads. Residents are asked to avoid all non-essential travel while cleanup efforts are underway. Limiting travel helps crews work safely and efficiently.

Halifax is a city. People require cars but cant afford/don’t have a driveway. This is common in every large city (Montreal) yet they don’t ban street parking city wide for snow removal. (Montreal also offers free off street parking) The HRM parking ban is a tax on people who can’t afford driveways.

Share it on this post that the fb algorithm just served up to me 😆 (multiple misconceptions about how property taxes work in HRM detected)

The province is responsible for plowing on provincial roads, of which there are still quite a few of within HRM, especially rural HRM.

Halifax has its own standards for plowing on municipally owned streets that aren’t identical to the province’s.

Interesting development on school violence transparency in a parent note from Island View High School. They actually used the word “assaulted” twice. Unheard of! Acknowledged police and EHS were called. However, no accountability that two unauthorized people entered the school.

Halifax, NS: Snow showers on the menu! 🌨️ A cold, wintry day for the HRM. It’s not a major storm, but enough to make the commute interesting. Grab a hot chocolate and enjoy the scenery!

One street has NO RESIDENTS but it has a huge highway sign with arrows and newly gravelled road, no residents. was once a church there, deconsecrated and for sale, but had no residents, and got gravel, I didn't. When they want to rule you under their thumb, It's HALIFAX (HRM) but

but I get your frustration. Here's my nemesis. The 🎶 and the sign said... HALIFAX (before it said HRM) but it hasn't been a county since 1994, I believe. I disapprove, it's still The County, but OK, I'll play.. it's HALIFAX, they name our roads.. Halifax Staff, people who've never been here.

It was great to be on Councillors on the Hot Seat to start the week with Jean St-Amand, Councillor, HRM District 16 hosted by former Councillor Lisa Blackburn. Lisa brings a valuable perspective to the airwaves drawing on her past experiences being a Councillor.

Oooh I love it.

For those of us about to have an amalgamation referendum on the other ocean, would it be possible to show old City of Halifax vs HRM as the dividing urban/rural line?

I thought the streets might be icy this morning but I drove in Clayton Park and Purcell's Cove and the roads are just wet. At least where I was driving between 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. I'm not sure about the rest of HRM.

Also, since I moved out of HRM all of my fave Halifax restaurants have closed so I have no suggestions. 😕

The Maritimes as well, especially Halifax and the HRM!

BC is quite progressive with traffic calming innovations, they have a world class urbanist who impacted their planning policies significantly.

Montreal’s family friendly lifestyle is enticing, and this film documented it wonderfully. 🤩
