 The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that crews are focused on clearing main roads. Residents are asked to avoid all non-essential travel while cleanup efforts are underway. Limiting travel helps crews work safely and efficiently.

Halifax is a city. People require cars but cant afford/don’t have a driveway. This is common in every large city (Montreal) yet they don’t ban street parking city wide for snow removal. (Montreal also offers free off street parking) The HRM parking ban is a tax on people who can’t afford driveways.

Cole Harbour Community Property Tax Cap in Halifax ••• There's been a lot of talk about removing the property tax cap to make things "fairer" and help new home buyers. I understand the intention. We all want more affordable housing. But I think it's important to look at the numbers and think through what this change would actually mean. What does it really cost to own a home today? The average entry-level home in Halifax is about $550,000. Here's a breakdown of monthly costs: • Mortgage + property taxes: $3,295 • Heat and electricity: $340 • Total monthly cost: about $3,635 To qualify for that, a household needs to earn about $105,000 a year — and that's with no other debts. If you have a car loan, the income needed jumps to around $110,000. This assumes a good credit score and no other household debts. What happens if we remove the cap? Let's say this lowers property taxes by $100/month. That reduces total monthly costs to $3,535. Now you only need to earn $101,000 instead of $105,000 to qualify. That's only a small improvement. It doesn't fix the affordability issue - homes are still out of reach for most average-income earners. But here's the real concern: Removing the cap would raise taxes on long-time homeowners. For many people, especially those on fixed incomes, this could mean an extra $2,000-$3,000 a year in new taxes. That's a serious hit, especially during a cost-of-living crisis. And so far, no one has shown how this extra tax money will be used. Is there a plan? Is there any accountability? If this is about helping new buyers, how will that actually happen? Who really benefits? This change doesn't help low-income families. It helps high-income buyers who already make over $100,000. It also increases revenue for the city - but without any clear promise that the money will be used to make housing more affordable. Bottom line: This proposal risks making life harder for people who've lived here for years, just to offer small savings to a small group of new buyers - most of whom already have high incomes. Before we support removing the cap, we need a real plan, real numbers, and real transparency. Otherwise, we're just shifting the burden without solving the problem.

The province is responsible for plowing on provincial roads, of which there are still quite a few of within HRM, especially rural HRM.

Halifax has its own standards for plowing on municipally owned streets that aren’t identical to the province’s.

Interesting development on school violence transparency in a parent note from Island View High School. They actually used the word “assaulted” twice. Unheard of! Acknowledged police and EHS were called. However, no accountability that two unauthorized people entered the school.

but I get your frustration. Here's my nemesis. The 🎶 and the sign said... HALIFAX (before it said HRM) but it hasn't been a county since 1994, I believe. I disapprove, it's still The County, but OK, I'll play.. it's HALIFAX, they name our roads.. Halifax Staff, people who've never been here.

Another pedestrian nearly struck by a right turning driver while walking in a crosswalk.

The dashcam group says this is an HRM vehicle once again
Caught on DashCam Nova Scotia Another serious failure to yield by an HRM vehicle at a marked crosswalk This DashCam video shows an HRM truck coming dangerously close to striking a pedestrian who was crossing legally. This was not a minor close call - it was a serious safety failure that could have ended in tragedy. A similar incident involving a city truck was recently reported and publicly covered. Both that incident and this DashCam video have been formally reported to HRM. Municipal drivers are expected to operate to a higher standard of care, especially around pedestrians.Crosswalks are not optional. I thought the streets might be icy this morning but I drove in Clayton Park and Purcell's Cove and the roads are just wet. At least where I was driving between 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. I'm not sure about the rest of HRM.
