I'm bad at explaining so bear with me but the idea is that they're having a sort of identity crisis, and even with a mask that is as concrete of an emotion/figure as you can get since it can't be changed, that those feelings are still coming out and affecting the viewer's perception of the figures.

A big thing I’ve learned during my CPT treatment is that I can both acknowledge that a feeling I’m having is stemmed from an irrational/trauma-based thought, but I can also accept the emotion that I’m experiencing. The two concepts can coexist and aren’t at odds with one another

"How's Vincent?" I ask into the silence. "Got him cleaned up, he's bunking with Jaheira of all people", comes the chuckled response. "If anything, she'll keep an eye on him", I laugh back. "But if you want to bunk with him, I can switch?" "Nah", Rolim answers and adds another log to the fire, the flames crackling already as warmth spreads through the room. "His head hit the pillow and he was out like a light." "What if he gets a nightmare?" I ask. "I'll know", Rolim answers. "The tadpole?" I guess. "Yeah, I still hate having that critter in my brain, but it's useful for that at least", he sighs. "I taught him how to contact me. Thankfully, it comes naturally. We used to have one of those fabled twin bonds when we were still mortal." There's a sadness in his tone, a grief so old and deep I can feel the hurt in my soul. "I felt it when he died", he whispers, his voice barely louder than the crackle of the fireplace. I wash out my hair and get out of the tub, half-heartedly drying off before throwing on some light linen pants and walking out from behind the paravent. I find him where I expected him to be, crouched in front of the fireplace, staring at the flames in silence. He's cleaned up and changed into his civilian clothes. "You want to talk about it?" I ask, gently reaching for his shoulder, giving it a soft squeeze. "Not tonight", he says without looking at me. But his hand comes up to place itself over mine, the coolness of his touch even more startling now that I just got out of a hot bath. "Alright", I answer. "If there's anything I can help you with, just ask, yeah?" He finally turns his head to look at me, and what he says next makes my pulse jump in my throat. "Kiss me", he says. The look of utter shock that spreads on Astarion's face almost makes me laugh, and I can't help the grin spreading on my face. His lips part, clearly, he's about to ask me if I'm certain, what brought this on, or some other question about my sudden wish, but I cut him off. "This day feels like it's a decade long already", I explain. "And between the splitting headache that I got from regaining all my memories of Vincent, trying to keep him in line and stop him from mauling anyone I care about, losing myself to bloodlust, and losing Wyll, it just feels like everything's spinning out of control." I close my eye for a moment, drawing a deep breath. "The only thing that's stable right now, the only person that anchored me through all the madness of today… is you", I admit and stand to face him properly. I don't let go of his hand, weaving our fingers together as they drop to our side. He still stays quiet, giving me time to sort out my thoughts, to explain to him why a kiss feels like the right move to make now. I can feel a warmth bloom beneath my ribs, my undead heart squeezing with an emotion I haven't been afforded the luxury to feel in two centuries. It took me a while to detangle and reveal it all, but the truth stares right at me with unflinching honesty. It's love. Over the course of today, I realized I love him. And it's not just because he's the first one in our merry band who truly supported me without question, but because of him—his patience, his loyalty, his ability to be strong when it's needed and still easily show vulnerability if it helps to bring us closer. He didn't have to tell me about his trouble within his family, but he shared that story with me, because that's what lovers do when they get to know each other. He readily leveled the playing field between us, unveiling his own scars after tending to mine oftentimes before. "You told that bitch, Araj, all the things I wanted to say but felt too tired and defeated to utter", I continue past the lump in my throat. This new, monumental emotion chokes me, but in the very best way. "You didn't question my decision to get my twin out of there", I say. "And, you had complete trust in me that I'd be able to handle him, stop him from killing you." "It was well placed", he finally answers with a soft smile, squeezing my hand where our fingers are entwined, his thumb running over my knuckles. "I knew you wouldn't let him maul me." I chuckle, leaning forward and up. He meets me halfway, and I press our foreheads together. Some of the water still in his hair drips on my face. It feels like a baptism, like I'm becoming someone new, someone who is finally allowed to love again without being scared that it'll all be ripped from my hands the next moment. It's a tentative hope, for Cazador's shadow still looms over me like a Damoclean blade. But it's a hope I still allow myself to feel. "I haven't seen my twin in 140 years", I tell him. "He could've changed in unpredictable ways. I took a big risk freeing him. But you backed me anyway." "Of course", he nods. "He's your brother. I'm sure you'd have done the same for me if it were Evindral chained up in there." I smile and easily agree with him. "Of course, if there's any chance to get a beloved family member back, you gotta take it." I lean back again, looking up at him as his free hand gently cradles my cheek, thumb stroking over my unscarred cheek. And I decide to just say it. As the Difficult Year project begins, I'm thinking about how our phones serve as an escape hatch from even minor moments of discomfort and how having instant access to that escape harms our ability to live in the real world
Phones are the great pacifying device of our time. No single human invention has ever been so capable of transmuting raw emotion into useless things. Great ideas become middling posts. Friendships become group chats. Political fervor becomes shareable infographics. Their greatest trick of all is turning time into less time. They are the crucial ingredient that allowed for the Smooth World’s formation, an anesthetic that can be poured on every wound. Our phones and the endless scrolls of social media they provide are perfectly designed to maintain a baseline level of addicted malaise, a promise that if you just scroll a little more, you’ll find whatever it is you’re looking for. The problem with phones isn’t just that they’re bad for us2 , it’s that they make us feel too good. Looking at your phone feels better than nearly any activity you’d otherwise be doing. There is no small, quiet, moment of our lives we won’t joyously skip over given the chance. It’s like we learned nothing from Adam Sandler’s Click.

Gods, and all the sensual dreams she'd had of them together were an embarrassing amount to admit. How they never failed to leave her wet and wanting when she woke up. Silently praying she didn't just mess up whatever was happening between them, she continued with her thought. "B-but…" "But?" he gently prodded, his nose brushing against hers. Her thumb stroked along his warm, flushed skin. The tamed hunger swirling in his darkened eyes only added to the fire steadily growing in her from the moment his body covered hers. She took a steadying breath. "But what I do want is for you to kiss me until I'm breathless. I want you to touch me and listen to me sigh your name as I let myself get lost in you for a little while," she whispered against his lips. "To show my desire for you in other ways, Hien. If that's not asking too much." Silva grinned when she heard his breath hitch, and the hand busily tangled in her hair tightened its hold. Oh, that's… Yes— fuck. His reaction made her giddy. It made blood rush to her head and burn in her veins. But her lungs forgot how to work when he held her gaze. The molten love and desire she found in his eyes deepened, pinning her to the plush bed beneath them. Good. There was nowhere else she wanted to be. Perhaps she wasn't asking for too much after all. "Is that what you want?" His voice was low as he questioned her. Steady but a little rough around the edges. Silva found it maddening — and she knew it was exactly what he wanted. "Is that what you're craving with me? Right now? Tell me, Silva." A demand that was gentle but left her squeezing her thighs together without thinking. "[It is, yes,]" she answered, the words leaving her in Doman. "[I do. Can you do that for me, my heart? Please?]" I trust you. My heart, mind, body, and soul are yours to take and hold. I know I'm safe in your hands. Those were the words she didn't say aloud, but they lingered in the air, and her lover understood. "[Sweet darling…]" Hien returned her grin with one of his own and gave a brief peck to her lips, excitement and need coursing through him to please his beloved Raen. "[I certainly can, Wildflower. I would love nothing more than to answer your wish,]" he vowed, voice thick with emotion. "[To see and feel your desire in a way that's comfortable for you.]" The breath Silva was holding left her in a soft whoosh. "[You're not upset about us not having sex, then?]" Hien couldn't believe what he heard, and his reply to her worries was instant. "[Kami above— no!]" he answered, shaking his head. "[No, not at all. I could never be upset about something like that, nor would I ever want you to force consent. That's no fun for either of us. Besides, I'm sure Ricmorn would kill me if I even dared to push you outside your comfort zone. Sex will happen when the time is right. My Biggest Showcase Bombs of 2025:
TI; dr I'm making fun of myself bombing last year, not blaming it on any of the venues or producers. It's that time of year again. My Biggest Showcase Bombs of 2025: 2. Crowd Work Wednesdays (Comedy Bar) - Crowd work isn't my forté. I'm not bad at it, I just don't usually do it for most of a set. And I got annoyed the SECOND my first punchline got interrupted by an audience member. I don't generally care to learn about anyone else while I'm performing. Afterward, I'm happy to talk. Good crowd work is a skill. I've got more to learn. Randomly, this was the most difficult check drop l've ever had to deal with. It's what happens when you go later on a lineup, so I view it as a good problem to have. But I remember seeing the checks hit each table like a wave across the room. It would've been thrilling if it were happening to someone else. I just remember being happy it didn't occur during my closer. All things considered, I did OKAY, but it still belongs on this list. 1. Fresh Faces (Laugh Factory) - It was my first time doing 15 at this club. It was incredibly meaningful and I was happy to have the opportunity. The room was hot. Like, physically. It telt like a furnace. I didn't want my T-shirt to get visibly sweaty on stage, so I decided to wear a sweatshirt over it. That way, I could be hot in secret, I thought. Most of the set went decently. I was getting hotter but I was determined not to wipe my face. Because if I wiped my face, they would see me sweat. Turns out, that logic wasn't sound. My face just got wetter. At the end, I closed on a bit that had been doing well. It's a joke about how men need to start crying in public more. And at the end of the 15 minute set, my face was shining. So much so, in fact, that it looked like I was crying. And suddenly, my lighthearted joke about men getting in touch with their feelings, came off like I was having a mental breakdown. As if I'm dealing with raw emotion as opposed to joking. At a certain point, multiple audience members said, "Aww," instead of laughing. It was a different type of bomb. I've had bombs where it's clear I just had a bad set, where my head wasn't in the right place, or where everything just went wrong. But l'd never had a set where people felt SORRY for me. And, that was my closer. Couldn't get 'em back. I had to get off stage and just stew. I have not done that bit since. Most of the set went decently. I was getting hotter but I was determined not to wipe my face. Because if I wiped my face, they would see me sweat. Turns out, that logic wasn't sound. My face just got wetter. It's a fun tradition that I look forward to every year.

"*It's ok*" He reassured, using his thumb to trace light circles on each of Milo's palms. "You can still tell me, nothing is ruined." "I can't" Milo protested with a weak, wobbly voice. "I didn't even say *what I said* right! I can't do this-" "You *can-* Just take a deep breath..." Milo breathes in, but shakes his head softly as he releases it, the tears falling down. "Maybe...maybe if it's too hard, you can tell me what you meant by what you said? Is that....easier, or harder than the other one?" "I didn't mean it" Milo hiccups "not like that, I didn't mean- *I'm not a girl.*" "Okay" Silas says softly, gently urging him to continue. "But I'm not...I'm not a boy, either" Milo whispers through tears. "That's- that's ok? You don't have to be...you know we'll all love you just the same..." Silas moved his hands up Milo's arms, rubbing his upper arms soothingly. "I- I know" Milo says, voice still wobbling. "I don't know why I said that... especially... especially now of all times, I..." He swallows again, wiping tears away. "I panicked?" "How come?" Silas asks softly, hoping maybe Milo had calmed enough to explain- hoping it would help him somehow. Milo sighs, thunking his head onto Silas' chest, probably to avoid looking at him any longer. "I think...I think I got in my own head about...if this would change anything? If maybe..." He brings his arms up, hands shaking as they twisted in Silas' shirt. "*Maybe you wouldn't like me, like this*" "*Oh*" Silas responds, quiet and breathy as the air leaves his lungs. Part of him had forgotten about his talk with Milo from before- about why he *really* went to live with his mom. He didn't forget on purpose but...maybe he had, a bit. It made his head feel funny everytime he thought of it, an uncomfortable mix of u recognizable emotions. He loved Milo, he really really loved him. But the thought of him *giving up his father* because he couldn't face his emotions is...rough to think about, at the *very* least. And knowing it was, in some way, *Silas' fault?* That's a guilt he'll never unlearn. But guilt wasn't the only feeling there, and he couldn't even begin to comprehend how deep that one goes- pushing it away felt like the best option. Being reminded of it now left a stinging sensation in his chest, not necessarily a *bad* feeling just....a strange ghost of unpacked emotion. Silas swallows down the lump in his throat, heart suddenly beating so fast it was starting to make him nauseous. Milo, perhaps feeling the change, looks up at him with a grown. He searches for something in his friends expression, and apparently having found it, pulls away. For a few moments, Milo just stares off into the distance of the balcony. Seeing his small friend suddenly so calm, so...resigned, made the emotion-storm brewing in Silas' chest grow unbearably stronger- he took deap, deliberate breaths in an effort to appease it somehow. When Milo turns back, he has a small smile of unknown emotion on his face. But he looks content, in some way, and it confuses Silas even more. "Should probably go rescue Bailey" Milo says, voice almost teasing "Can't imagine what Skylar's gotten them into" It was an out. Milo was giving him an out. Did he *want* an out? "Yeah" Silas responded, trying to find his voice again. "I can see the headlines already" He joked weakly, still unsure. Milo gives him an odd half-smile, pushing off the balcony rail and making his way towards the doors, Silas following a few steps behind.

It's definitely an artist struggle. When reviewing the page before updating the website, I noticed "Oh, the ear is too close to the rest of the face. The eyes look too big and what emotion is he supposed to be showing?" I felt if I'm having these issues and confusion then my readers will, too.

OK SO!!! rn it seems like the hivemind’s foremost narrative use is as a circumstance that the remaining individuals must navigate and that’s where the actual story is. i’m seeing a lot of discussion abt what these people still have that the hivemind now lacks. which i think is its own very rich line of inquiry! but i am much more interested in the hivemind’s experience and potential growth & development as a single entity that came into existence via the integration of 7 billion entities. at first i was rly curious abt How it works & what the limitations of the connection are & the nature of their response to negative emotions, just like, rules lawyer stuff, but learning they, with the complete aggregate wisdom and professional experience of the entire human race, just fuckin let the animals out of the zoos?????? that’s fascinating. all signs point to them intellectually knowing better, bc literally Every Zoologist is in there—but there’s also the five-year-old who thinks it’s sad that the bear can’t be a big pet, and the lifelong peta nut who’s always dreamed of turning the elephants loose, and the real estate developer who rolls their eyes at the red tape preventing them from paving over a wetland sanctuary. do all these feelings persist inside the hivemind, and are they in conflict with one another? working under the assumption that this really is a single individual, and that its bodies have wholly lost their own former individualities, the picture this paints is of someone who has to grapple with their decisions & priorities, with questions of judgment, with self-control, and has inherited, along with the sum of all human knowledge, the sum of all human emotion and impulse. do its bodies still have the muscle memories and unconscious physical habits of their past owners? how does it experience any given one of its bodies getting a cramp or dealing with an arthritis flare-up? do any of its bodies still bite their nails? are these the same bodies that contained habitual nail-biters before? or has it absorbed the habit into itself (i’d assume at a degree in proportion to how common it was among the general population) so that any of its bodies at all might bite their nails once in a while? does its nature as being made up of humans predispose it to the same needs that humans irl address by stimming? does it become restless? how does it experience a single body having a health crisis—is it as upsetting as it would be to a single-bodied person, or does it feel more like discovering a hangnail? i’ve seen discussion about the arrival of the hivemind signalling the departure of artistic creation, which i’m actually not sure is outright stated, implied, or just an absence that viewers have taken notice of, but it’s a premise i have to reject altogether. i think, especially at the scale of an entire species, art is an unavoidable consequence of sapience. comes free with the pattern recognition & complex problem-solving. & the idea of art having a sole fundamental purpose of communicating ideas to other people is just ridiculous to me. when it walks a bunch of its bodies somewhere as a group, is it conscious of everybody’s footfalls being in or out of sync? is it conscious of the formation they’re arranged in? does it draw any connections to memories of army parades, angry mobs, marching bands, guided tours, family hikes, events of mass displacement, lining up single file behind a third-grade teacher? is any part of it stimulated by rhythms or music? how would it dance? if you asked it to arrange a precise and intricate physical performance with a hundred or more bodies, would it be at all challenged by the task of coordinating all those moving parts in such arbitrary ways? the only way i’d buy the hivemind not being about as inclined to art as the average individual human is if it itself was not actually its own self but an appendage or tool of some other, larger thing. which could totally be where the story is going, but i’d find it really boring. although! this thing abt them not being able to cause any kind of harm to anything so they’re eating……already-deceased human meat(???) and as a result are going to die in a matter of years if no solution is found—that’s a v tempting puzzle to me. it’s so antithetical to life! the constant circulation and recycling of nutrients throughout the whole ecosystem is a fundamental part of being something that makes more of itself, which gives me the impression that this virus either did not evolve naturally or reproduces by some other mechanism that earth in particular is not equipped to provide. if im not mistaken, doing/receiving harm as a vital role in the process of being a person is something the writers are exploring, but im not sure whether that means they’re going to capitalize on the literal conditions the hivemind is operating under or the purpose of including those conditions is simply to sharpen the questions the show is asking.

I’m going to share the screenshots of me talking about it with someone because I’m sick of quietly warning people. This happened in Oct.
“So for some context, I’m a pretty open book about most of what I’ve been through and go through in terms of like, my mental health and life and whatnot. I’ve been through some shit (though who hasn’t), and being both physically and mentally chronically ill is honestly like a modern day Sisyphus a lot of the time. So I’m upfront about a lot of it, especially in a BDSM context, because it means that my limits have to be reevaluated on a nearly daily basis, you know? “The job situation can be summed up as verbally abusive and toxic, and since I genuinely don’t have the option to get out of it right now, I’m stuck just keeping my head down and trying not to let the way I hear my boss and supervisor talking about people like me completely beat me down. There’s 20 years of aggression and resentment among the other staff boiling over, and it feels like I’m walking into a fucking war zone every time I come into the office. It’s so uncomfortable, and then add in my boss regularly calling me stupid for things he’s responsible for happening. It’s also an organizational nightmare and I can’t get a straight answer on a single question ever. So I’m stuck in this shit 40 hours a week, which is just destroying my mental health. “I’ve been making porn and stuff for a while, but only really started getting back into it when I joined the audio erotica community, and this is the first time I’m really making friends and coworking relationships within that, so I’m having to navigate some new things within that. I also did not have a loving childhood by any means—that’s an entirely different story, but its relevance here is that as a result, I don’t know what it feels like to be genuinely loved, just “loved” as a means of control, so I really struggle to tell when someone is being disingenuous with me. That said, I firmly believe in taking people at their word, so if someone tells me something, I’m going to trust by verify until they’ve earned my trust more fully. So I’ve got a long history of loneliness, abuse, and rejection that makes me want to latch on to anyone who shows me even the smallest inkling of emotional intimacy in a sexual setting. Which is not a great thing to have in a sex work space tbh, but I’m able to mitigate that response like… 90% of the time, I’d say. So Silver followed me for a little bit and interacted on my posts for a while before DMing me to ask about some of my darker kinks and stuff. Started off just talking about fictional stuff, the he asked about potentially sexting and swapping nudes, that fun stuff. I haven’t gotten to really sub for someone in the way I really want to, so I was super here for the whole thing. We also chatted outside of playtime like that, and he showed a genuine interest in me as a person outside of a sexual context. Then he decided to play a “prank” on me where he made me think that he had been lying about being 30 and had actually just turned 18. I absolutely took him to task and told him what a shitty thing that is to do (particularly because I personally have a firm boundary that I don’t play with anyone under 21, and 21-25 is like 50/50) and he apologized sincerely, and started working to earn my trust. I told him he could do so, but that I was ending the D/s aspect because I *will* not sub for someone who has broken my trust at any point. His apologies seemed like he understood why I was so upset with him, and he did start working to regain my trust. I was kind of on the fence about it, but the he warned me about another “Dom” who had been making moves on me. The guy was a legitimate pedophile and misogynist and just disgusting excuse for a human being, and he warned me before he was publicly outed and ousted later that day (he knew the guy’s long term sub and she told him when she found out, and he told me). That was enough for me to be like “okay, I can trust you again.” We went back to swapping nudes and videos, but minus the D/s dynamic. Things were fun, then he started saying things that felt… not platonic. At first I was like “okay this is me reading into things because of my loneliness and stuff.” But it kept happening, and he was getting more and more emotionally intimate with me. We were talking one day about both of us dealing with a lot of shit, and I asked if I could do anything to help, and his response was “take care of yourself like I’m taking care of you and that’ll be all I need. That and a picture of your smiling face so I can feel better.”

Holy hell, this weekend has been a wild ride of emotion. Parents aren’t in my life anymore, but I have an amazing chosen family and friends. I should be devastated, but I’m only a little sad.

If you told me a year ago that I’d now be having the most incredible weekends, I wouldn’t believe you.
