"Meltdown in the NAS with staffing triggers and heavy enroute metering"

Happiness is when it gets so cheap it is not worth the cost of metering it. 😎

Just thinking that we could easily be living in a world where electricity too cheap to even bother metering buy successive political decisions have been to ensure that is not the case.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Gordi told me about some old Kodak Vericolor III (1994 exp) for relatively cheap on eBay. it has shmutz on the box, so might have been cold stored part of the past 30 years. did some test exposures, iso 12,25,50 (messed up the 100 test shot so got to look at the emulsion)

Shot some B&W 4x5 along the canals here, and the negatives actually turned out ok!

Still not 100% confident in my spot-metering abilities yet, but I seem to be doing it right so far.

We actually can, California has days like that, but the structure of the market and the way utilities are regulated mean that customers aren't buying electricity at the real-time wholesale price. CA did make changes to their net metering program to discourage excess btm solar during surplus hours.

Build, baby build might sound great as a sound bite but it's no substitute for serious policy

Maybe after Tuesday's results, we can get real net metering in VA.

The panels on our house produce more than we use. And yet, we pay Dominion a min of $9/month in what is basically an accounting fee. And they don't pay us for the surplus energy our panels produce.

Oh look
Anyone else remember how we were told nukes would make power so cheap it would not be worth metering?

Turns out the market economy has NO possible way to account for negative costs

Pentax ESII. A spotmatic with open aperture metering and aperture priority mode.

The MX is so cool, it has batteries that are cheap and super available and is fully mechanical (batteries just for metering/compensation but you can even shoot without it in a pinch).
Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Today's review is the Pentax MX — one of the smallest fully mechanical SLRs ever made:

It has everything you need and nothing extra — all in a durable painted brass chassis with lots of lens options, including a tiny pancake lens! 🎞️📸

I ran the numbers on this in my relatively low cost muni (about 12c/kWh). Solar does beat the stock market (largely because it is post tax) with net metering and the tax credits. Without those, not so much unless you pay higher rates (CA, CT, HI, etc.)

absolutely scrunkled bc husband works late and on early morning they replaced our water metering, at least we had kebab :]

#birdoftheday is #flying I was playing with highlight-weighted metering (to avoid the almost inevitable clipped highlights from white bird in sun). As this one took off, so too the sun ducked behind a cloud transforming the marsh to coal black.

Apropos to nothing in particular. A newly developed 35mm camera that has a number of modern features (AF, metering, glass lens etc)really isn’t going to be sub £300 - £400 Yes, there are many late 90’s etc P&S for much less but thats not really the point is it. #BelieveInFilm

Large-scale renewables have likely reduced electricity prices in recent years, while net energy metering and RPS policies generally increased prices, researchers found.
But states with the highest share of renewable generation in 2024 had among the lowest prices.

Solar deployment and policies have had a mixed effect on electricity prices, researchers find
While large-scale solar and wind deployment “may have reduced” retail electricity prices over the past five years, net energy metering and renewable portfolio standards generally increased prices, the...

We crossed the tipping point a while ago. The global money know this. That’s why they are consolidating power everywhere. The slow dribble of information to the rest of us is just a way of metering out the panic. It’s absurdly easy to do this with long emergencies.

there’s a metering technique with reflected meters called “threshold” where you measure where you want shadow detail and subtract 3 stops and then “place” at the d-min part of film curve. The opposite is “white placement” where you measure highlights with detail and add 3 stops.

No battery for now since our utility offers net metering, which essentially treats the grid as a battery.

The Olympus OM-4Ti close-up... This is a high-end, 35mm film SLR camera known for its durability, advanced spot metering, and compact size, released in 1986. It includes one of the best spot meters ever put into an SLR, with multi-spot metering capabilities, shadow and highlight compensation....

Net metering is pretty gnarly policy because you're applying a set of rules originally meant to protect consumers buying retail electricity mostly coming from large fixed investments in capacity to consumers selling wholesale electricity back to the utility

i think the advice of quickly rolling out a vertical slice is probably one of the best things in creative work, as far as metering out your own dopamine to keep going. getting a "here's a glimpse of what it'll look like down the road" in your hand to toy with is a great motivator.
