... Then why is even a modestly sized solar system $15,000..?
Also unless you buy a battery, which are still outrageously expensive, you will get power during the day and be at the mercy of your power company at night, which means net metering. Kickbacks across the country have been dropping fast.

Still got a supply in the freezer, I'll be metering it out carefully 😬

We don’t have net metering here. We only get REC credits -> something like amount of kwh sold times the PUC net rate/kwh*0.92. They settle the account once per year. With 10kw panels and two electric cars, our bill was $50/month inc. Grid fee and taxes. Before the cars, we got 2 mo free.

They've changed the way they did net-metering at least 4 times after I had already installed the panels.
Are you really making the argument their treatment of their customers, is fair, stable, and predictable?

I've done that once or twice alright but most times I am faffing about trying to remember all the different bits to consider: WB, Spot/Partial/Scene Metering, Speed, Exposure, Focusing, tracking the thing. Easy when it's a still subject or landscape, but moving subjects are quite a challenge for me.

kind of a little bit intensely frustrating that the f2 only does center weighted metering and theres no way i can get it to do spot metering without buying a new prism

Right, I was close. I was sorta rounding up my metering this morning. 1/2s might be OK with lens cap method, though maybe Id want to make a more traditional cap-shutter (ie press on and with a handle rather than the fiddly pinch one I have on there now that is hard to remove and replace cleanly.

I've been shooting a dslr, mirrorless, or slr for over 30 years. I learned all my basics on film, like composition, metering, filters, slow shutter, etc. I started digital in 2009 when software and dslrs were still fairly new. I feel like I haven't been able to keep up with […]

I like that BC Hydro is now looking at neighbourhood solar. It’s an interesting approach. I take advantage of net metering with my solar setup. It’s made great economic sense for me. Imagine a national approach to solar energy! A distributed grid makes so much sense.

Wow. I got panels here in BC for $20k, got a $5.6k rebate on that, am on net metering (no storage) and my interest free loan from the feds is less than my previous hydro bill. I paid $200 total in the last year in hydro bills.

They can pay me for my time if they're going to waste it with this kind of nonsense. Any solution has to be seamless and privacy retaining so metering home charging is the only sensible way I think. Public charging is already expensive enough.

So for moon shots I’m using a 600mm lens Helen. So handheld this was 1/640 of a second at F13 and I used spot metering to get the moon’s exposure right. If you have smaller lens just make sure the speed you choose is faster than the length of lens. Gets rid of camera shake issues. 😊

Shot some B&W 4x5 along the canals here, and the negatives actually turned out ok!
Still not 100% confident in my spot-metering abilities yet, but I seem to be doing it right so far.

Gordi told me about some old Kodak Vericolor III (1994 exp) for relatively cheap on eBay. it has shmutz on the box, so might have been cold stored part of the past 30 years. did some test exposures, iso 12,25,50 (messed up the 100 test shot so got to look at the emulsion)
